that would be a very interesting move by Sony and Google. A great way for sony to boost market share though.

This is like a dream come true. Maybe if this does goes through, Sony would learn to make their phone pentaband.
And!!! Maybe we can finally see a shutter key on the Nexus. I'm so annoyed at the lack of shutter key on my Galaxy Nexus.

There's no way a new Nexus device would be announced at MWC; it's far too soon for Jelly Bean as there are no non-Nexus ICS devices even shipping yet, unless Google really does want to risk fragmenting Android to an extreme. Besides, they gave me a similar response when I asked if there was any chance of a NEX phone.

That said, wasn't SE originally approached to make one of the earlier Nexus devices?

I agree with you, it's much too early to announce a new Nexus device. But maybe they could announce a closer partnership with google and that they will produce the next Nexus device. But I don't think so. For the last Nexus google looked at phones from different brands and decided for one of them. I'm pretty sure that's also the way that they'll go this year.

Actually, even I think the next nexus will be made by sony, After all the first nexus was offered to them , but they were very smart to reject it, hopefully ken might be more open to this idea..

While I don't like how Samsung got two Nexus devices in a row, the good part about the Galaxy Nexus is it sets up a better naming precedent in my opinion. Just imagine, Xperia Nexus, Optimus Nexus, Ideos Nexus, MotoNXUS....

I agree MWC is a bit early for the next Nexus handset, but a Nexus tablet perhaps?? There has been a murmouring or two that the next android version will be more squarely aimed at tablets and the Nexus line doesn't reach to tablets yet so it make sense.

Whether Sony would be developing it or not is a different story. Don't you think Google would try to utilise their newly approved acquisition of Motorola to handle such a sensitive release as a Nexus tab? or even a Nexus handset?

The answer to the question lies in what Googles main aims are with the Nexus devices. They are/were primarily to help developers develop on the newest android version before most manufacturers upgrade release it, but with the greater success of more recent models perhaps Google will use the line to help the reputation and support the manufacturers who use android. In this case Motorola (with Google behind them) don't need that help just yet but someone like Sony could do with the boost.

The flip side is that SE has done a lot for android in terms of offering SDKs and helping android developers and offering really interesting UI solutions. From a technical and fanboy point of view I'd like to see Sony with the next Nexus, but I think it'd be close against Motorola for who gets it.

I think making the next Nexus smartphone is a wrong decision. We are very aware of the lawsuits going on between Samsung and Google, an Apple regarding patents infringement. Sony Mobile Should avoid at all means being directly involved in such legal cases as it would be time and resources consuming, which do not help Sony recover from their losses. Although it would cause me great joy to see a Xperia Nexus, it would impractical as long as the patents infringement claims are being filed.

On the other hand, I would love to see a superphone based on PSP Vita's hardware and OS, plus the new Sony technologies. Vita's OS is promising although the web browser needs vast improvement. Putting that aside, the OS is still something to look forwrd to. I guess this would be the answer to most of the members here wishes: a phone running with Sony' own OS and technologies.
