I literally fail to understand Sony's mobile division, and am confident no one in Sony understands it.
Sony had two phenomenal products this year which everyone should have bought.
The tablet z and the z1 mini.
The tablet z was incomparable to anything else out. And still is really. So Sony didn't bother to make the slightest fuss about it.
The z1 mini is the only phone which murders the iP5s in all categories that are relevant for many people with iP5. Premium design and build, small, good camera and screen and really fast. And Sony is waiting to sell it internationally, or is waiting for Samsung, LG, HTC or even Chinese companies to make true mini versions of their flagships.
In other words, where Sony were incomparable, they didn't care or take the slightest advantage.

@Away
Dont worry. The mini version always come after the flagships. It means that Z1 mini will have enough time over a "S5 mini" and "HTC M8 Mini". Even , I cant see Samsung and HTC releasing a mini version with the same specs of the flagship.
When Sony showed the Z1f in Japan, They created a big Hype on Z1 Mini.
Look at me. I am just counting down the days until the international release of Z1 mini in January

Ahhhhhhh Z1 mini, ticks all the boxes for a decent camera phone for me apart from 1 - lack of xenon flash.
Until Sony see fit to add a xenon flash alongside the led to there camera phone line up I wont be parting with my money.
Hopefully the Z2 / Z2 mini will put this fault right.

@PowerLee
But Z1/Z1 Mini are not camera phones like 808/1020 or S4 Zoom. Z1/Z1 mini are just Smartphones with a good Camera

Z1 / Z1 mini, the camera just isn't good enough in low light, it badly need's a xenon flash.
More people would buy a Sony Xperia phone IF the camera lived up to the hype.
Until Sony fit a xenon flash alongside the led so the camera is actually good in low light conditions, I wont be buying another Sony Xperia phone.
As for Nokia / Samsung, you couldn't pay me to have one of there phone's, previous experience of both there awful customer service is why I don't waste my money on there product offerings any more.

@PowerLee
your first step should be investing at least millions of dollars to get thin xenon sufficiently R&D and mass production, not just waiting and talk about the impossible at this moment.

I'm happy with my Arc S running Gingerbread at the moment, I just take a digital camera with me that has a xenon flash when I know I need low light camera performance.
Shame I have to carry 2 devices but for now it will have to do.
One day Sony will build a decent camera phone that actually lives up to the hype, until then ill hold on to my money.

+1
Sony as of now likes their phone thin and beatiful... this is the real signature of Xperia's, the design.
as long as the use of a flash would make their phone bulkier they will not put it into their devices (I think)...
The 1020 is a good example beacause it's not that bulkier... but still it has a bump... and Sony do not like bumpyness
So guys I've been away from this awesome Rumor thread for a bit... (do not worry I will not ask any summary beacause I read all the 63 pages

)
but... is the NO LEAK policy so bad and so strict???

it's surely better to carry 2 devices than carrying Galaxy S4 Zoom with you!
LOL

not exactly. the tech you referred to is only for reducing cap size and it's not in mass production yet. xenon still drains a good amount of energy from battery with this tech, so this is only part of the R&D. ideally, new flash tech should be thin and consume less power. we need innovation for camera flash just like how we go from vacuum tubes to transistors. that requires a lot of R&D.
