What I know is SONY current plan's to make less phone, low spec, high price (as always) and the result is less sales but got high profit.

With their current X series, then they're doing very good job in the first three objectives... but failing tremendously in the last one..

Thought it's still early to make such a judge.. but just have a look at Xperia X reviews... AP reviews says "Sony Xperia X review: Sony's latest attempt to convince you to buy a phone from someone else" and Androidbit says "Sony Xperia X review: high price for mid-range"... that's why I said the last objective is failing

Here's the data over the smartphone manufacturers. Notice the very high growth rate of many of the Chinese and one Indian. Samsung will probably stay at the top for another year or so, but LG will probably drop a few places.

There is no way Sony will be competitive when it comes to marketshare right now especially considering how commoditized the smartphone world had become.
This high pricing strategy is the only way to be competitive, the apple way. Gone are the days that phone manufacturers get a lot of their profit in numbers since there are too many competitors to grab every costumers away.

I don't think it's viable to follow the Apple pricing strategy with ANdroid. What's the differentiation Sony can offer? If they had some stellar edge, e.g. in the camera, then it would be possible, but what's their edge? Clearly not in the camera department. It used to be water-proofing, but Samsung (and others?) has that.

I totally don't agree with you...

The Apple way of doing things is because they have a strong brand and they're the only player in their market, I mean there's no other iOS maker... so they can do what ever as long as their brand is strong and peoples wants their products ( iOS and macOS )... it's either Apple and pay a lot or not...

Sony doesn't have such luxury... there's a lot of other Android makers, and there's a lot of options, and also wide price range... They wanted to concentrate on Multimedia as this is where Sony is better known in but they had a tough competition, and all their efforts were just not enough.. there's something wrong with Sony that They don't complete the whole recipe... they build a great phone, but it must lack something or two... and they build a great range but Software limitation stops them... and their aggressive pricing strategy also makes every one does not think about them because, well there's too many Android devices to choose from...

People buying iPhone not because it's perfect in every corner, but because they want iOS and it's their only option...

So why do think people will buy Xperia if they can get the almost the same experience with lower price ?

And Sony's strategy is just strange, just forget about flagships, and release something high-end with the same price as a flagship.. and release a mid-range with a high-end price !!

I know Sony's phone are very good in performance, but 95% of the world doesn't know this... they're not willing to pay any premium over less-spec'ed device specially that Sony is still - yes still - known with slow updates, having too many phones that their 6 months old flagship is not a flagship anymore and you must accept the fact that it won't get the latest software quickly just because Sony already have a new flagship... some might say this was long time ago.. yes I know.. but 95% of other peoples doesn't...

Building a reputation is hard...
Negatively impacting a reputation is very easy...
Re Building a falling reputation is very very very hard... and Sony's problem this time is that they're still negatively impacting their reputation with their X series segmentation and pricing... have a look at the reviews around and see your self...

^ Agreed.

I think there is no hope for Sony smartphones anymore as Sony can't differentiate anymore in any aspect. They could (at least i think so) differentiate with cameras but they didn't take advantage and now they are done for good.

Sadly the 2half flagship might be Sony's last chance(is there even a 2half flagship?) I hope the price won't be like X performance and X

Yup, if they fail to deliver some impressive stuff as a next flagship, and it's gonna be just "okay" and average flagship, they can shutdown mobile division and focus on other stuff. or maybe they are alright with that to continue to burn money?

it seems they already gave up. I would fire the managers and replace them with playstation guyz
All sony fans ask is a good phone for a fair price.I know that I do at very least. I don't want a super fictional super duper phone. just a Z6 with top shelf stuff and FAIR price. 3GB RAM in Xperformance is really fail. Oneplus three has 6GB for half the price
