Many of my colleagues have abandoned their WM phones for Blackberrys and the P1i simply because they work far better when you want to use the phone to actually communicate rather than show off to friends.
Gimicks aside, UIQ on the p1i has some very fundamental things right even if it isn't the smartest phone on the block. and the ability to easily type, or write long messages on a compact device (compared to other phones that can really do this) is quite an important feature.
...and this is an experience I share with you, adcamb. Some of those (i.e. the users always most interested in having a device to show off rather than actually putting into use) for some time now have turned their heads towards the fruitphone... It's actually quite a bliss, saving me from a lot of grunting and moaning about making their WM-phones work (phones which they don't seem to able to use very well anyway =). This saves me a lot of time and enables me to focus more on utilizing the current (mobile) business environment in our company (rather than helping out "the lost cases"). In this regard iPhone is actually a nice phone, supplementing those not in real need of a real SmartPhone.
The other part of the SmartPhone crowd have gathered around the Symbian SmartPhones, with

P1i as the leader of the pack (and thank G for that!)
I can see a cross compatible series of UIQ 3.3 phones as being a smart way to get the application writers and thus the punters back.
Don't forget, SE is trying to sell a series of phones to real people, not fan boys. You don't make money focusing on the fan boys.
...and to this I can only say; couldn't agree more!
Let's not get (too) depressed over lost battles and/or lost phones before we actually get some official news, pic's, spec's and/or a release. All good things come to those who wait patiently...

Real people use features way behind what's available. Certainly the difference in the Camera and GPS are something most would notice, but 3g vs hsdpa vs hsupa is not a difference that most care about.
If I can get a decent signal from a 3-4G connection and I need that speed, then I'm probably using my laptop and probably near a hotspot. 3G is way fast enough for email and web browsing and do you know of ANYONE who makes regular video calls?
We used a range of HTC phones and had problems from battery life, firmare updating, an inability to restore from backups made my previous firmware, slow screen transitions, two rings for the "do you want to answer the call" buttons to appear and devices that break when you drop them. The fact that most of them just died after 12 months didn't help either.
So the UIQ3 platform is 2 years old, but it still works and my colleagues like it more than the alternatives. I'm loving the idea that the G900 can do the same things in such a small form factor. I can't wait to see what's coming in September, even if Paris does turn out to be a compromise, it'll be a solid, attractive usable compromise and that's what sells. That multimedia thing from the video looks amazing and the X1 may well sell me yet, but then so might the HTC Diamond if there is (as is rumoured) a version with a keyboard.
Now roll on this storm. Has anyone checked tomorrow's weather?

Without a proprietary codec based on an open-source standard (Divx is a modified mp4 video codec with Avi/Xvid mixed in - I hate all this branding and subversion of the same thing). Quality of colors, motion blurr reduced at high speeds, better/less compression of the raw video, etc etc.
I'll agree that the Viewty & the other new LG has incredible video recording - with no current equal in the industry; but I don't think its the end all be all.

Paris will be running on the same old processor..mizzle has confirmed that. so the only diff frm g900 is gps nd qwerty. He said the UI is much faster though.

@m.h.Croatia Totaly agree about the state of SE's affairs at the moment ! On the other hand, it will never be quite clear to me, what are the people who are not interested in what is posted here, doing reading this and let alone posting useless replies. Are you trying to make the better people out of us or you just don't have a life ? Thank you !

one little two parts question to you PK,
the device that you're talking about ( the one wich had better video recording quality than viewty ), do we know it's code-name ? or at least is it's code-name has been mentioned here in the last two or three pages ?
