one little two parts question to you PK,

the device that you're talking about ( the one wich had better video recording quality than viewty ), do we know it's code-name ? or at least is it's code-name has been mentioned here in the last two or three pages ?

in the last 10 pages or so, yes.

Real people use features way behind what's available. Certainly the difference in the Camera and GPS are something most would notice, but 3gvs hsdpa vs hsupa is not a difference that most care about.

Definately...

If I can get a decent signal from a 3-4G connection and I need that speed, then I'm probably using my laptop and probably near a hotspot. 3G is way fast enough for email and web browsing and do you know of ANYONE who makes regular video calls?

So true...

We used a range of HTC phones and had problems from battery life, firmare updating, an inability to restore from backups made my previous firmware, slow screen transitions, two rings for the "do you want to answer the call" buttons to appear and devices that break when you drop them. The fact that most of them just died after 12 months didn't help either.

We have Blackberrys and they do the exact same thing with the phone not ringing straight away even though on the callers end its rung like three times... We've had problems with most of them and thats probably 15-20... They dont work well as phones, hence I use a P1...

So the UIQ3 platform is 2 years old, but it still works and my colleagues like it more than the alternatives. I'm loving the idea that the G900 can do the same things in such a small form factor. I can't wait to see what's coming in September, even if Paris does turn out to be a compromise, it'll be a solid, attractive usable compromise and that's what sells. That multimedia thing from the video looks amazing and the X1 may well sell me yet, but then so might the HTC Diamond if there is (as is rumoured) a version with a keyboard.

Really looking forward to the G900... The size is fantastic... And i'm looking forward to getting back to using T9 and typing one handed again, had enough of having to use both hands!

BB Connect works pretty well now..

Why don't you read what I wrote again, obviously you either didn't understand it or are confusing things.
Let's try again:
Symbian+UIQ+Touchscreen combo is good - it gave an advantage to SE over competitors, which SE very generously is wasting away.
I never mentioned anything about cameras, honestly don't care too much, as far as I'm concerned even a decent 2 MB one with AF will do. I was referring to the sound quality of SE walkman phones which are easily bettered by even the most basic Nokia phones.

I did re-read it, are you saying that SE has scraped it's edge on the smartphone business then? Which is a daft thing to say as they are still making the same OS and touchscreen combo phones? And according to many the P990 was the worst yet your saying it's the best?
As for the comment on camera's, it wasn't directed at you, I thought you would know as you didn't make a comment about the camera.

But to the people commenting on camera's I think it's very sad, the one feature of ANY phone that's used the least (You know pretty much everyone considers texting and making calls as a more important feature) is the one feature your all arguing about. I know plenty of people with N95's who couldn't give a rats ass about the camera, they use it yes but it's so infrequent it doesn't matter if it's 2 or 80Mbx. And they certainly don't have a clue about weather it's CCD or not or how many Mbpx's it is.
In the real world no one cares about camera's, but people on here seem to have an obsession with them and are stating SE's entire future on how good it's camera's are!!!???? You obviously don't work in business?

@adcamb and caspa

Please you really can't be serious that people buying a smart phone which is a Data centric device are more concerned with a camera and GPS over HSDPA.

There are no 4G devices and won't be for a long time but as HSDPA already offers 3.6-7.2mbps it is a huge difference from 384kbps and for E-Mail it may make very little difference but with a nice fast processor and a great Web Browser the difference is very noticeable and to claim other wise is just ridiculous. If it is not even reaching 3.6mbps but just half of this it is still 4.5 faster then 3G's 384kbps and of course this increase in speed is very noticeable ask any one that has used it and see if the want to go back to just 384kbps i doubt you will find anyone that would want to.

Even SE users that have HSDPA on their devices sing it's praises and it is not an elite service but is now starting to be a standard feature on even non smart phones including some even from SE, just not on SE smart phones is all.
So if it really is not any better just why are SE giving it to some of their devices then? How about because they can as the new platforms support it where as the same old tech on their smart phones don't so until they upgrade it they can't give it even if they want to.

Now as to why SE don't upgrade the hardware on their UIQ handsets as of yet and seem in no hurry to that really is the $64,000 question. But that is what they really need to do and do fast it seems in most peoples opinion that is what they want. Who is going to do without a faster processor and HSDPA and larger screen just to own an expensive SE/UIQ device when they can get all they want from so many other manufactures and with such a wide range to choose from to.

@Caspa
Me too, P's are like high-maintenance women, I need some rest...

@apolloa
...well, makbil knows what he is talking about. P990 WAS the flop when it was released due to the firmware problems and the amount of time it took them to make it stable. The device is not perfect at the moment, but I also don't see anything ( including P1 ) that could totaly replace it, and that is not in SE's favour after 2+ years... We could argue the importance of camera in phones endlessly, but if they are already there, shouldn't they be more than a gimmick they are ATM ...

@Marc
... GPS performance will be of more importance to me than data speed in my next main device ... not saying that it is irrelevant, but we all have different needs and habits ...

So what did you all think of the phone in the video m-one posted? I thought you would be buzzing with excitement but the focus seems to of shifted towards the downfalls of UIQ and SE.

To me anyways, it seems as if people on this forum are terrible at filling in the missing piece's even though the answers are right in front of you. Take the images of a new touch centric UIQ interface thats leaked onto the web last year. It clearly shows that SE are addressing issues many users have complained about.
Also a member here leaked some info that SE would start using the processor in the PSP ( which is ultra fast ) into a new phone.
Take the 3.5 inch MULTI-TOUCH screen that Sony created earlier this year, plus announcements that they want to have the first OLED multi-touch phone on the market.
Add all this together and it seems that SE are planning to launch a phone that might be based on the platform used in the PSP. It might not be UIQ but it should keep people that want an iphone like phone happy.

I've lurked on this thread since it started but I've only justed joined. And I have to say, some people here are very ungrateful! how many forums can claim to have company insiders that can leak products that are constantly active? Think about that and stop complaining! Some of you are acting like fruit slaves! its like you need a keynote with full specs and pricing before you get the message.

If peterkay says more is to come then I believe that SE will deliver because SONY make awesome products, not Sony Ericsson, SONY!

@apolloa, what I'm saying is that SE had a huge advantage over its competitors but they are gradually loosing it. Two years ago I chose the P990 over the N95 because it had a touch screen even though N95 had more features. If Nokia can come up with a touch screen device (admittedly it should not be that easy) what leverage will SE have left?
I'm still one of those that believe Symbian is better suited to the mobile platform. So if SE adopts even a half decent strategy Symbian+UIQ may still have a future.
As for the P990, I've gotten used to it and honestly I don't have a serious memory problem, possibly due to my usage habits. I still claim that hardwarewise it is better than all subsequent SE offerings - with the exception of RAM size, it has bigger screen, proper qwerty kbd, lens cover, hard keys that SE seems to be doing away with... So yes, it has deficiencies but it's still better than what SE has offered since.
