It can't be unlocked for free. But you can do an update for free using SEUS.

Actually, he is unable to use it as a phone as of now because of the SIM lock. He got it from UK and is now in Dubai. Isn't there any possble way to unlock it? Is Debranding the same as SIM unlock?
Thanks,

Debranding and sim unlocking are two different things.
One lets you change the software to a different version/network operators customization or how the manufacturer intended (debranding)
The other allows the user to insert any networks sim card no matter what software is installed on the phone (sim lock/unlock).
Debranding can be done using paid and free versions of software (eg davinci, x10 flashtool) but sim unlocking can only be done via payment as there are no free ways to do it yet.
The x10's bootloader has recently been cracked which should mean that a free way to sim unlock your phone might be available within the next 6+ months.
There is at the moment. No other way of doing what you are asking apart from what has already been suggested here to you by myself and other members.

Forgot what made me love this X10.It was the Froyo 2.2.1 Free X10 Rom by Zhidzhu.(? Can never remember how to spell that buggers name).
So its out the cupboard and been enjoyed again.
@MissUK Funnily enough for the last 2 years the Nokia E90 has only been an alarm clock.(Its the most expensive alarm clock Ive ever owned) What makes me use it every now and again is guilt. It wasnt the cheapest of phones when I bought it and you cant sell it now and get anything close to what you spent buying the bugger. So selling it is not an option. Its such a beautifully crafted phone with a big inner screen but technology wise you are right. It is ancient. Will keep it and it should come in handy when Im old and bored of all the bells and whistles on a phone and just want a phone-phone.Make call, receive calls, text, email and a bit of doccy writing.
Almost Gingerbread time or are we going to be disappointed with a September release lol

Unlocking x10 is instant now. Go to nextgen server, buy a credit, get the instructions and unlock immeditely. I unlocked an x10 which has zero unlock counter.. Costed me 25 pounds.. The customer support was excellent...
