guys remember what happen to the p800?? Same thing happening to the p990i but as what we saw the p800 is fixed and same thing will happen with p990i....

Whilst I admire you optimism but on the earlier P series phones it was just bugs on the P990 it it not just bugs but the actual implementation of both the new hardware and OS and whilst i agree firmware upgrades will help i honestly do not believe they can cure any where near enough to resolve most of the issues. How ever much people want this to be possible i just think it is not going to be possible or happen.

I'm looking forward to you having to eat your words. If you're right then I guess I have to go back to negotiations with my wife for yet another phone/PDA purchase. I bought my P990i two weeks ago (upgrade from i-mate JAMin) and am fairly satisified, but hope to see low memory, KERN_EXEC program crashes, and camera auto-focus issues sorted out in the coming firmware update(s). The software quality issues in the P990i are similar to what I saw in the early releases of Windows Mobile 5.0 on my JAMin.

The P990 has the potential to becoming MUCH better. But, UIQ3 inherently has memory leakage problems. All the firmware upgrades and software adjustments (ie, S.man.Pro) will help to make the phone more stable, but I doubt that they'll completely be able to fix the memory leak.

Fortunately I don't wait a new frimware at all. Right now I am in deep peace using my P990. To my extreme surprise not one bug I noticed except 'all mighty' RAM problem which I very successfully solve using swiss manager. Those marvellous features don't stop fascinating me day by day. We all know how brilliant P910 was and still is. Don't like to repeat myself but it would be unbearably for me to come back to it after using P990. Eventually this RAM problem will be solved in next P, or whatever you call it generation if not in this. Whatever people my say the ultimate-smarth-phone vision is much closer with P990 and I know I am enjoying that big step forward fully to my heart's satisfaction.

The firmware threads tend to grow quite large. Look at the
K750 / W800 Firmware Overview (449 pages and counting!). The subject heading of this thread shows the current level so no need for you to read through all the posts.

"XIP (eXecute In Place) technology used in all pre-Symbian OS 9.x phones allowed system processes to be run directly from ROM memory, without having to be copied to RAM first. NAND-flash memory used in P990i (and all Symbian OS 9.x devices) is faster and cheaper, but it doesn't support execution "in place" so all system software has to be loaded to RAM. Because of this, even though the P990i has 64 MB of operating (RAM) memory for program execution (twice more than P910 and 4 times more than P900 and P800), only ~15.5 MB is free. It's almost 2,5 times more than in P900 (which only had 6-7 MB RAM free) but about 6 MB less than in P990's predecessor - the P910. With software properly optimized for smartphones' limited resources this reduced RAM size doesn't cause any serious problems and one can still run many (depending on size, even up to 10 or 15) applications simultaneously. However, very complex or unoptimized software may allocate a lot of free RAM and make it impossible to launch other applications at the same time. For example, running certain 3rd party software doesn't let the Messaging application run in the background and continue scheduled email downloads. It seems that developers writing software for UIQ 3 will have to learn how to use operating memory more efficiently so that not only their own software is able to run but also that it doesn't prevent other programs from running in the background. Some work to be done is also on Sony Ericsson side because current memory management is unefficient, if not just buggy"

All firmware talk can stay here, no need for an announcement thread and a chat thread. I will always update the title of the topic as soon as a new version is confirmed and on my phone, which usually is the same day it is released.
