this could be the reason:

-CPU/GPUs utilizable for Symbian devices are mainly freescale, nexperia, TI-OMAP with PowerVR SGX and ATI 2300(GPU).

-CPUs/GPUs utilizable for WM devices were TI-OMAP, Qualcomm, intel, samsung, PowerVR, ATI and Nvidia.

Trust me, they've done lots and lots of tests with the hardware. The public has only been allowed to see a percentage of the phone, and only parts of the XPERIA panels.

@mizzle

Is X1 gonna ship with with WM 7? can you point to where you got that information please?

From what we saw so far:
- SE representatives said WM6 on the show.
- Leaked pictures said WM 6.1

But from there, to jump to WM7 is a bit pretentious, isn't it? please can mizzle or anyone with some information on the subject clarify this? thanks

WM7 is too far away for X1 (middle next year).

It's a myth imho that WM has to be unstable. Stability comes down to how well the os is integrated with hardware and branding. For instance I've found HP WM mobiles to be much more stable than XDA WM mobiles. HP is a company with a reputation for good quality hardware. So is SE.

Personally I would rate a good example of a WM mobile just as stable as a good example of UIQ or s60.

In cases of UIQ platforms with stability problems this is usually down to SE not giving enough CPU power to the product. The X1 has a 528MHz cpu and 128MB RAM, I expect it will run more than adequately with WM6. The question is, why can't SE give it's UIQ platforms such good processor support

Wow really... I haven't used any Windows Mobile phone so my knowledge is pretty hazy in that field - but I didn't know stability depended on the brand.

Mario,

Why on earth would I be joking?

@tonchy

No, it'll be WM 6.x - preferably 6.1.

I hope X1 will be released with WM7 preinstalled once that comes out. TBH I wouldn't buy the X1 with WM6.1 unless I knew that I could have WM7 on it once available because it looks many times more useable than WM6.1 does. It shouldnt be a problem in my view as the X1 will be available around September/October (at least I think thats what is being said) and WM7 devices are said to be shipping late 2008/early2009. Given those approximations, and how close those dates could potentially be, it would be an appalling contingency plan if the X1 could not upgrade to the new WM (I dont know why they dont just release it slightly later with WM7 installed and thats it). But as far as we know at the moment its WM6.1 .

Well remember the X1 is suppoesd to have the Xperia Sony Ericsson User Interface - not windows. The panel system seemed very usable to me.

Microsoft is prone to delays so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have Windows Mobile 7 ready next year.

True, but its doubtful that the Xperia UI will COMPLETELY overlay the WM interface. If it does, then there shouldnt be a need for an upgrade to the OS, as the interface is the major change in WM7 (if you exclude the rumoured gesture control, and programme improvements, which is an obvious development).
