X1 - probably using WM 6.x where x>0.1
X2 - probably using WM7
By the time the X1 is available the h/w will not be bleeding edge and so a refresh will be needed and 6-8 months seems about right. SE need two high-end devices at any time if they are going to be a leader like Nokia in the long term.

It's not WM7.

has clearly said that it's running "Windows Mobile 6", and NOT WM 6.0 OR WM 6.1. Which is more than understandable seeing that the OS is not yet announced.
'The fact of the matter is that the handset carries the OS version that is to come after WM 6.1 (which is demoed at this 3GSM too, being hyped as some sort of a breakthrough, while in fact it is not– its change log is about one page long, of course if you omit all tiny and insignificant details).' -Eldar Murtazin
'It is important to note that WM 6.5 (a name I made up a second ago just for convenience – this OS has a different index and codename) is the biggest overhaul of the WM interface over the past years, as it introduces gesture-based navigation, revamped music and video players, support for 3D accelerators and several other amenities. Those who will be lucky enough to bump into a Sony Ericsson’s manager carrying the XPERIA X1 and persuade him to demo it will be able to see some of its features in action, and the truth is, they look pretty good.' -Eldar Murtazin
Sounds very good to me >D

That is based on the photos, the photos themselves could just be tests, I cant say for certain myself. But both of those quoted above are highly credible sources. GSM arena is going on an unknown source.
As evidence of this (as I see it): it was told at MWC that the X1 would feature gesture control. This is not a function on WM6.1, as far as I am aware. Therefore it should be a revamped OS.
