It was all going so well. I got my P910i last Tuesday, and have been very happy with it. However since turning it off earlier this evening, I've not been able to turn it back on again. I press the power button, it vibrates, plays the Vodafone animation, and asks me for my PIN. About two seconds later -- whether or not I've typed my PIN -- the screen turns black, and then a few seconds later the phone restarts. It appears to be stuck in this loop permanently.

I don't know what's caused this -- maybe an application is trying to load at startup and is screwing things up? I've taken out the memory card, and even tried booting up without the SIM -- all with the same result.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do please? I've really got a problem here, as I can no longer use my new phone :'( *worried*

Thanks!
Stuart.

the only thing I tthink you can do is to format your p910. But I don't remember the code to enter the menu where you can format....

Thanks for the suggestion -- the trouble is that I can't get to any screen for long enough to be able to enter the correct sequence of jog/star presses and then select the format option! The PIN screen only displays for about 2-3 seconds before the screen goes blank and then the phone resets...

Anyone got any other ideas? This is rather a pain -- and a little bit of a concern if the phone can lock up quite like this I've taken the battery out now, with a view to leaving it out for 12 hours, as in other posts on this forum people seem to have found this helpful. Would *very* much appreciate any other suggestions that people have though!

Try 0000. That is the default SE code.

Thanks to Residentevil and hyperken for the ideas!

Residentevil: the problem isn't one of knowing the PIN -- I know the PIN The problem is that the phone is rebooting roughly 5 seconds or so after it turns on, whether or not a PIN is entered :-/ Thanks for the pointer though!

hyperken: Will certainly try this, after the battery has been out for 12 hours. I'm not going to be a happy Stuart if I have to send the phone to a service centre a week after buying it though!

I presume that SE will fix this free of charge without any argument? I guess my concern would be whether this is likely to happen again -- I'd also noticed, over that week, slightly odd problems with the standard task list application (sometimes I would tap on one task, and another, which wasn't even visible on the page, would open). Wondering whether the P910i is just too buggy to keep at the moment -- other people don't seem to think so though?

1. Try booting without the MS inserted.
2. Try booting while charging on the SyncStation.

You can enter the service menu to format from the pin screen...

Thanks for your suggestions, LAU! A progress report:

* Leaving the battery out for 12hrs made no difference.

* Booting without the MS made no difference.

* When I put the phone on the SyncStation to charge the screen lights up as usual to display the battery charge symbol. However every 3 seconds it flickers black, and the following pop-up box is displayed: "Information: Not found." with a "continue" button. Pressing continue makes no different, though the box disappears.

* Switching the phone on whilst charging just gives the same problem as usual.

* Also thanks to Gardar -- the problem though is that I can't do *anything* because the phone just keeps rebooting, so going into the service menu isn't an option in this case (though would be ideal, so that I could do a hard reset) :-/

OK, looking at this thread it seems that the only solution is going to be for me to send the phone to a service centre, even though it's not even a couple of weeks old...

If this problem is caused by an application failing to load properly at boot-up, it seems somewhat silly though that there's no key that you can hold during power-on to load only critical libraries, so allowing you to get to the service menu without the phone rebooting again!
