Hi,

Someone mentioned on here the other day about the volume levels of Route 66, and that they had increased them by 6db using SoundForge. Has anyone else done this and, if so, would it be OK to share a copy of them with me? (British version).

I don't have Soundforge, so if anyone can help then it would be appreciated......

I did mine in Windows Recorder but it corrupted the program and kept freezing. A format and fresh install made things back to normal. Having the files on a server somewhere would be a good idea, though i cant see why Route66 didnt pick this up during development.

I bought a TDK OutLoud flat panel mono speaker/cd case off Ebay and cut off the cd bit so I'm left with a battery powered flat panel speaker that plugs into the headphones outlet. Nice and loud now. i might even try to incorporate it into my sun visor.

These files are converted in Adobe Audition.

There are two files in the .rar. both are zipped. Inside those zip files are the "british" directory which is within the "speech" directory of R66. One is the louder files, one is the original if it doesn't work (and so you don't moan at me for messing up your system!).

I haven't had a chance to test them in R66 yet, but I have played them on the P910 speaker, and they seem OK. If someone could let me know if they work OK?

Good luck!

TomTom for P910i is now coming and I am already using it for some time. (testing) I am using increased sounds for my P910i and it works
quite well! You have to change only one file.

Route66 has an enormeous amount of files, so changing them is quite
a work.

here's a pic.
One side contains the 2AA battery pack and speaker, the other is just to create the cd storage bag.
I cut off the non-speaker side so I'm left with the battery pack attached to the speaker with a 3.5mm headphone cable - you'll need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphone adapter too.
These are pretty cheap in the UK on Ebay

Thanks very much for this! I'll try it tonight and let you know what happens!

I enhanced the route66 sound files with Sound Forge 8. It contains a batch function, converting all the sound files in one go.
For me it made the difference. I use it now for over a month and even when driving faster I can still understand it.

Simba19, can you help me, please?

Where in Soundforge 8 is this batch function?

In my version there is a help function...

In case yours hasn't:
Go to tools -> Batch converter
Click add files, Choose the sound files, Goto process and choose Volume in the drop down menu. Click Add effect and choose 6db (200%) in the preset drop down menu. You can than set some save options to keep your original files. Click run job, wait a short while and upload the files to your phone.
During testing I put the enhanced files in a different language directory, so you can easy swap between the original and the enhanced version.

Good luck!
