> Tomtom Go 700 with a P910i (VF UK)
Bookmark topic
Hoping that someone outthere will be able to help... (and hoping I have postred in the right place)
I recently bough a Tomtom Go 700, at the time I had a P900. As the P900 does not support voice calling, decided to upgrade to the P910i as it is listed on the tomtom website. Now, the P900 worked a treat for wireless connections, so I now GPRS works on the contract and that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the tomtom.
When the P910i arrived, I tried to set it up, and it works for voice dialing, so that is ok, but now the wireless link just wont work. The device tries to set it up, but alas no joy - it never gets the connection up... I am starting to suspect the VF firmware is a bit broken, but I am not sure (and looking at some of the other postings, I am using all but the latest firmware - since it is not ready for VF UK anyway).
Has anyone else had issues with this?
Can anyone suggest what to try?

if you have not had the 910 for long ( not much on it? ) try a master reset and start again. if you have a backup already? try a master reset and using the backup.

There is nothing on it at all, still not moved over from the P900 (as it not really working anyway), so I'll give that a try...

when i had the 700, (returned it because i got poor quality on the calls using the blue tooth with diff phones) at first I also strugled to get it to work with gprs for traffic etc but when I set up the settings using the manual option on the 700 it work fine, every thing else worked fine appart from quality as it seemed to pick up a lot of interferance which was a shame a overall it was nice to use.

Is the connection ok? Does the phone connect to the GO?
Try a master reset and try over again. If that does not work, try a software upgrade of your phone when possible. If it still goes wrong please contact me and I will help you further. I am experienced in
connecting TT products

Well, the phone connects ok to the Go, making calls is ok over the go, but wireless connection - no chance!
I have now done 2 master resets, the SE s/w upgrade, and still nothing.
I have tried manual config of APN (i.e. 'internet' apn with no username and with web as a username).... what is even more stupid is that I can connect via my computer over the same phone - but not the Go!?! Is the P910i on VF UK a supported device??? or is this one broken? what gives?
(Should I shout at VF, TomTom or SE?!?)

Uhm! What connection settings do you use on the GO. Because the
connection is made with the settings on the GO and not with the
settings on your device.
You could try if your connection works OK on your device. So check
websites like Esato. Then your GPRS is ok. Check if the little globe is
gone when you try it on your GO. Go to the GO and try it overthere,
use the correct settings for Vodafone UK.
If it does not work please let me know what you are exactly doing. The
steps exactly and I will look at it.

I think I have got it, this is a issue with the Vodafone UK firmware...
Now, in my case, I never got passed the setup of the wireless connection. In the Vodefone version of the phone, it has a number of data connection predefined - the thing is, these cannot be deleted or modified. I suspect that when the Go tries to create 'its' data account (like PC Gprs 5 etc), it tries to do so in a manner that intefers with the Vodafone locked settings - and it fails the setup... The reason why it works from my computer is that in that case no local account is created on the phone...
I will have a discussion with Vodafone UK about it (still have a week left to return the phone), and I will try to source a non-branded phone in its place.
Thanks all for helping out! A great forum!
