Clever boffins from the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore have come up with a way to make a urine powered battery for mobiles and other devices.

It works by sandwiching a layer of copper chloride steeped filter paper between magnesium and copper. The resulting battery, which is smaller than a credit card, will then produce 1.5 volts with a power of 1.5 microwatts, from just 0.2 millimetres of urine.

:o) It may sound a bit quaint to society at large, but all new technology seems quaint at its inception. I'll bet in 20years from now we'll marvel at how sluggish the fastest mobile is right now, etc... This message was posted from a Nokia

Cellular-News

Using 0.2 ml of urine, the team were able to generate a voltage of around 1.5 Volts with a corresponding maximum power of 1.5 mW. Battery performance can also be adjusted by using different construction materials.

Any chances they can get cars and bikes to run on methane?
The price of bloody 4-star for the sportsbike is killing me!
Was considering LPG for the van but methane is so much easier to manufacture...

As long as the rest of the phones waterproof, its a great idea!

Note to self: do not use on the train again...
