Just two or three things...

On may, while enjoying that faboulous city that is Paris, I got my Nokia 6260 stolen from a little guy, in front of my eyes, without even noticing it (and it was a little child, one I could easily beat)... Well, I had the SIM blocked and as soon as I came back home (I live in Madrid, Spain) I went to the police and had the phone blocked... Talked to my insurance and, after some objections, got the phone paid. Now I have this marvellous P910i...
The other thing is, if you know the guy, if you are older and bigger and meaner than him, or if you have a bunch of friends that could help you, put a little pressure on the boy. You don't have to do anything, just explain him that his life would be a lot easier if he gives you back your phone...

Well, good luck.

Regards.

what a son of a ...... If I was you, I talked with builder an explain it all, if not I would be a lil bit more violent and break a chair or something in front of his eyes just to let him know how mad and furious you are. If he is 17 yo as you said, and his done all does questions, it's just beacause that lil bastard has it, so he'll be affraid to be your next chair. I know it's not the best you can do, but I can ensure the kid will fear you and if he is not really stupid, he'll leave de P910 somewhere a.s.a.p. and do like if nothing happened

Hope you find it soon!

Report it to the police and then your Dad needs to talk to the owner of the building company and ask if they are insured for their workers nicking things.
There would still be the matter of paying the builders which puts the ball decidedly in your (Dad's) his favour.

The building company would not want the publicity of their payment being withheld because of their thieving workers!

Why didn't you use the securitycode feature? It prevents unauthorized people from using your phone even after switching the sim making the phone practically useless unless you know the security code.

There's also the possibility of the security feature (screenlock) so that you have to type in the code everytime you have left the phone idle for a while making it even more useless even when it's on. It' also very handy for nosy girlfriends!
