I've had my V600i for a while and never bothered checking the USB cable that came with it since I don't need it. I was always sure this phone used the normal "old" DCU-11 cable since the connector for handsfree and power supply is the same as K700i.

But I finally took a look at the cable this evening and found to my surprise that it doesn't connect to the lower part of the phone. Instead it's a different connector that is inserted on the upper left side of the phone. It's a new and small connector that I haven't seen before.

I've heard a lot of people saying that when SE made the K/V600i they went back to the old and slow connector. But is that really so? Does anyone know if this cable/connector is a so called fast port or is it as slow as the old one? If it is just the same as the old one, why didn't they just include a DCU-11 cable that fits where you charge the phone? Why would they make an extra connector just for the USB cable in the upper left side of the phone when they just could have included an excisting cable? Anyone with an answer?

That's a mini-USB port (I think).
Same speed, and features as a normal USB port only smaller.

Don't really know why they used it, since it seems those are the only phones with it (not sure about the V/Z800 ... )

@Krubach

Thanks for the answer! I find it strange that SE put effort in putting that "extra" connector on the phone. They might as well skipped it and placed a DCU-11 in the box... hmm!

as the DCU-11 is still only a serial cable you'll probably find that there are some advantages in using the mini port usb one

They've used it on a couple of phones, the Z1010 I think was the first to come out with it?

I wonder if SE will make the V600 available at SEUS. They did with the V800... if so, I wonder if the USB cable that they provided will work or if you still need a DSS-20/25 as with all the other SE phones that doesn't have the fast port connector.

Yep. I too don't see a valid reason for that, since DCU-11's exist for the bottom connectors...

speed might be called an advantage. If it operates faster than the slow serials speeds of the normal ericsson connector.

Well, if that's the case then we wont be able to use SEUS with this cable. The Z1010 needs DSS-20/25 to use SEUS, but I saw that the V800 doesn't. Does the V800 come with the same USB cable as V600? If so, then maybe it'll do anyway

Time will tell I guess!

my Z800i doesn't need a DSS 25 ... all you need is a DSS 25 drivers !!
just plug you're miniusb ( which is really fast )
& update .. !

about the DCU-11 ... don't use that ... use the USB cable ... it ALOT faster !!!! my Z800 is capable of reciving up to 12 Mb per second ..
so i think it's the same for the V600/k600/k608i...
