Ive just got a spvm500 after 2 years of using a p900 I have orange access pack on the account which gives unlimited wap access. When using opera or the inbuilt web brouser on the p900 the first thing that happens is that you get the connect to the internet dialogue box pop up and I get to choose from "orange Gprs" "orange.net" or "orange MMS" as longs as i choose "orange gprs" I can connect to whatever site I choose and i dont get charged (i.e. it comes out the orange acces pack bundle). This applies to wap or web pages, this has worked fine on my p900 for over two years, in june i racked up 600 mb of use with no charge. Now i have switched to a spv m500.The first thing i did when i got the phone was ring up orange to check the internet settings to make sure the same applied as with the p900 and the answer i got was wap is included in the bundle internet isnt and as long as you stay on the orange wap portal you wont get charged but as soon as you use the "search full internet" option on the search engine then charges will apply. They said the same with my p900 when i first got it but i never got charged. This made sense to me as there were three seperate accounts and i only ever connected to orange gprs. Now with this new phone i dont understand the connection settings i have just been charged £40 ish for 14mb of internet use after ringing orange i got the exact same response as with the p900 wap=free web=pay and apparently the phone automatically connects to the relevant account depending on what you are looking at. Seems strange to me that ytou can connect to a wap site and quite easily change to a web site without the phone making you aware of the change in account. Im going back to my p900 unless i can change the setting on this phone to work the same as my last one, i used nearly 600 mb one month on my p900 surfing the web and streaming radio with no charge.
Any experts out there no how to get round this problem?
I hope i explained it clearly
kev
edit: on further inspection the spv m500 has the same accounts they are just hidden deeper, Ive noticed by default i.e. uses the the internet acount, ive swapped it to wap accoout, hopefully this will work, am i correct?

no conclussion after 1.5 hours on phone, i have a head ache! NO one at orange can understand why i havent been billed in the past, since 2002 i have had an unlimeted gprs wap account which only is only supposed to work for wap, apparently the billing system can differentiate between the two and charge accordingly, now on my p900 this wasnt the case, i never got charged. It seems too much of a coincindence that the only differences this month which led to a £70 bill was a new phone which was connecting through the internet account rather than the wap account. Orange says it doesnt work like that and the seperate accounts make no difference. Im now confused..... Ill wait till next month i suppose and see if i get a bill now ive swapped the account over to wap

the only difference i can see between orange internet and orange wap is the address in the settings. one is "orangewap" the other is "orangeintenet". is this the difference between big bills or no bills? can anyone explain how it all works to me, im now intrigued.

Hello there,
Basically, Orange uses two different access points for different types of GPRS (or in these days UMTS) traffic. One is called orangeinternet, the other is called orangewap. Older handsets (before handsets that could browse the internet was common), would be setup to use the orangewap APN by default to do WAP browsing - this is inclusive of the P900 even though it could browse pages through HTTP.
These days, a lot of handsets can browse the net, and handsets which can, will by default, be setup to use the orangeinternet APN.
The bundle you have is an old old old bundle, which allowed for unlimited access to WAP (but was subject to a fair usage policy of 1gb I believe). I believe the access is differentiated by what APN you connected through, not by what sites you looked at once connected through the APN.
On your M500, if you go to... Start > Settings > Connections Tab > Connection Icon > Manage Existing Connections (under the Orange World category), edit the profile in there, change the access point to orangewap. As far as I know, you should then be charged as you were previously.
Hope this helps!

thanks for the reply, you must work at orange, lol. i wish i had spoke to you last night. I thought that must be the way it worked seeing as i hadnt been charged at all with my p900. I have now changed the settings on my spv. Hopefullt this will sort it out. I had got used to being able to use it without wathing the money.
Your are right it is an old tariff, mid 2002 i think, i got it as soon as it was out cos it seemed a good deal It is the only reason i stay with orange.
thanks again k3v

I have 2 Orange accounts on the phone, Orange Wap GPRS and Internet GPRS.
The orang Wap is more for your phone and allows the phone to look at the info on the wap pages corrctly, However like it has been said in a prev update, Most phones can use internet and wap pages on the phone so the need for Orange GPRS internet.
Orange are the only network that still have 2 accounts, this is so you get the privlage of being able to use older phones with out problems.
Confusing i know, but it does work
I have a Bundle too and no matter which account i pick the bundle now covers both.
this was changed when Orange was setting up the bundles as customers were complaining of being charged when they shouldnt have,
When you speak to Orange Customer Care now as most of them are relative new, they will not no what on earth you are talking about. So in fairness to them they are blind, also they are now trying to sell you new bundles and not the old ones.
Hope his helps.
