ok guys ive got a question about mobile insurance that i could use your help on. if i get a new phone with mobile insurance, and make a claim and get a new replacement phone, the original phone is locked right? the handset would be useless yeah? my query is would the handset still be able to work in other countries?

for example i made a claim on my insurance, the phone is locked but i give it to my friend in the states, would they be able to use it? thanks for any advice you can give

In theory yes it would work but if you were found doing something like that by the insurance company they would robably take you to court for insurance fraud.

Yep, that's right. My Nokia was insured, but as it turned out it was "grey" which voided my insurance when it caught a virus. I could've dropped it in water and then claimed, but that would be fraudulent... So i've opted to go shopping for a new phone instead. This message was posted from a Nokia

but i suppose the chances of the insurance company of ever finding out are pretty slim....

I should think so, although some companies have investigators who do spot checks. The investigators mostly work on a commission basis, so it's in their best interests to save the company money by finding wrongful or inflated claims and adjusting them accordingly.
