The emergency number feature is useless on all phones since these numbers differ from country to country...i wonder why manufacturers ain't looking into the matter?

112 is the GSM standard for emergency calls and is designed to call the correct emergency service in the country you are in.

The translation from 112 to 999 or whatever the emergency number for the country you are in is done at the exchange so as long as you remember 112 then you will have no problem

yes, we go through this ritual of listing each countries emergency numbers whenever this topic comes up, including 08 for Mexico

Many phones also allow 911 but 112 is the number you should remember.

btw, don't forget that you can key 112 even when the keypad is locked and even if you are not in the network area of your carrier but are in the coverage of another network carrier and in some cases (manufacturer dependant I believe) even if there is no sim in the phone

we had a good disussion about this a while back

How does Emergency Calls work?

Masseur, 112 definitely doesn't work in india. What purpose does it serve putting in an emergency feature which won't work everywhere? Something has to be done...
