> Using Sman to flush applications
Bookmark topic
Hello!
I've decided to make this post to put people at ease regarding the usefulness of Sman (System Manager).
In a nutshell, Sman not only shows you open apps and allows you to bluejack others phones, it also allows you to select a list of applications that are always open. By this I mean that you can set applications to close when you close the flip (called FL - Flip Closed mode). The list that you provide Sman as exempt from closure.
Closing applications automatically when the flip is closed is called "flusing".
It is worth pointing out that having additional programmes open uses memory, which, in turn uses battery life. If you have lots of RAM hungry apps open then you will definatly notice a high power usage - so it may be worth your while to try this out.
STEPS/
1) Ok, first you need to install Sman, from here:
http://my-symbian.com/uiq/download/search.php?name=SMan
2) You will be presented with this screen:
3) This is the list of open apps on my phone
4) We are now going to close ALL of the applications.
5) Select them all using the check box on the left of each application
6) Click "end task" on the bottom icon menu
7) Now, you need to decide which applications and programmes you 'don't mind' being open and using memory/battery, such as messages, calendar, contacts, desktop messenger, etc - also, if your application is open all of the time (in the background, ie. visible in Sman) is will open much quicker - try it, open the calendar from fresh (close it in sman and then start the calendar, compared to opening the calendar with it already open in Sman - quicker isn't it?)

Now that you've selected your list pf apps to remain open (unflushed) you need to open them all - simply open them, and then return to Sman.
9) Click the "camera" icon. Sman will show "snapshop taken" (or something like that!). This stores the image (a snapshot of the currently open apps within Sman)
10) Ok, we have now saved out choice of permanently open apps. We need to tell Sman that we want it to close any app not included in this list every time that we close the flip (also closes them when we click that 'toilet' icon!)
11) Select "Options>Flipclose flush, and Forced endtask, like:
12) We have now told Sman to close all applications, upon FC (flipclose) that are not included in the [exclusion] list, to be closed automatically.
13) Finally, when we restart the phone, we want Sman to open automatically. Select "Fn>Utilities>Autostart>Sman, like:
There you go!
You can also close open apps, individually of course, with Sman by opening Sman and selecting them individually to close/terminate by selecting "End task" from the icons.
You can also use a programme called Taskman (available from:
http://www.symbianware.com/do[....]php?id=taskman_p800&pl=se_p900 - not free though

). This allows you to set a button (camera, internet, etc) that when pressed, asks you if you want to close that programme that is currently open. Handy if you use your phone without the flip (hence Sman FC flush will not work of course)
I hope some of you have found that useful, and reasonably easy to follow.
If there are any other things is Sman, or any other apps, then please PM me and I will try my best to write a guide.
Thanks for reading!
Jon

Thanks, I ate reading long stuff on here aswell! sorry, i tried to make it as concise as I could, but also simple for new users, and a bit down to earth aswell.
It's well worth it though I think as I;m sure there arne't many people who use Sman to its full potential.

Got my first P-series phone 2 weeks ago and that was one of the first apps I installed, so these tips are really useful.

I hope you realise that 'bluejacking' only involves sending a phonebook contact name to another phone via :BT:

This means you don't even need a special program, just create a new contact in your address book called whatever you like, then choose option - send - via bluetooth, and your done

Thats what I have always done lol

Nope, You dont need to necessarily create a contact....You can set a pre-defined message in SMan...which gets sent out to bluejacked devices....now the fun part is that you can set SMan to continuously sweep the vicinity for BT devices and try to bluejack everything it finds

And BJ via Sman is annonomous - is is not if you use a normal send contact - well non-anonomous as far a sthe name of you fone goes. eg. if your name is BIG FAT JON on your fone, then it may be obvious who you ar eon a bus!??!!
