I can easily tether my SE Z600 to my PowerBook using the Ericsson Infrared Modem Script, *99***1# as phone number and properly set up data account on the phone. (I have T-Mobile US).
With the same settings my W800i doesn't even connect and if i try other scripts like the one provided by Ross Barkman here: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
the phone attempts a connection only to finally return the message: "Connection Failed. Check Network coverage or Data and Internet settings"
The wap works fine on the W800i so i'm sure the settings on the phone are OK.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for the help.

I just managed to get it working. I was having the exact same problem on OSX Tiger (10.4.3), I called O2 to give me hand, and for the first time ever they tried really hard to help me, but they only made things worse.

After speaking to them, I was no longer able to access GPRS at all. But this is what to do...

1. Download the following file: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/files/SonyEricssonGPRS2004-01a.sit

2. Extract the archive and move the script files into the specified folder which is /Library/Modem Scripts

3. Go to the Network Preferences in the System Preferences and create a new location, call it whatever...

In the drop down box labelled "Show" above the tabs and beneath the Location drop down box, choose Network Port Configurations, and untick everything accept Bluetooth.

4. Go to the PPP tab, and type in the following:

Service Provider: Whatever you want, in my case, O2 UK.
Account Name: Whatever your provider says, in my case, o2wap.
Password: Whatever your provider says, in my case, password.

Here's what was causing the problem for me, the Telephone Number, all the other guides and forums etc. were telling we to type in either "NONE", *99***n# where n is the CID of the connection I am using, or leaving the box blank. What you need to do, is to type in your APN. In my case "mobile.o2.co.uk" (without the " ").

Leave the alternate number box blank.

5. Press the PPP Options button, and ensure that everything is left unticked, accept for Redial if busy, you can leave that unticked too if you like.

6. Next go to the TCP/IP tab, and in the Configure IPv4 drop down menu, choose Using PPP, unless otherwise instructed. Your Network Provider may or may not provide you with DNS Servers to enter too.

7. Next, go the Proxies tab, make sure everything is unticked unless otherwise instructed.

8. Next click on the Bluetooth Modem tab, and in the modem drop-down box, choose the script Sony Ericsson CID1 if the CID of the connection you are using is infact 1.

To check what the CID of your chosen connection go to the Connectivity Menu>Data comm.>Data accounts and highlight the connection you want use, press the MORE button and go to Account info. Where is says External ID followed by a number, this number is you CID. If it is any higher that 5, you need to delete one of the connections between 1-5 and recreate this one which will take up the space of the deleted one. Then choose the appropriate modem for whichever CID your connection is using.

9. I believe that the "Enable error connection and compression in modem" can be either ticked or unticked, I leave it unticked. Leave the "Wait for dial tone before dialling" box unticked. The next two are your choice.
