I had exactly the same problem with my old K750. I must tell you, this is bad news: The service told me this was caused by liquid contact and it kills the warranty (I was pretty sure I did nothing wet around my phone).
They also said me that SE doesn't repair this kind of problems since the warranty isn't valid anymore. I wanted them to repair and I was ready to pay the costs, but they just deny me. They just say: "We refuse to repair damages due to liquid contact because even if the malfunctioning area may work after we repair it, some other damages may occur later, so we just ignore you"
I have my K750 back now, still handicaped and my mother uses it without Memory Stick function (lucky me, I had a W800 as a gift). I'm still investigating the customer rights codes, because SE doesn't repair the phone, and I think this is outrageous.
PS: My phone has never been wet, I really don't see why this did happen.
