Only this morning have I discovered that MMC cards are not as bad as I thought and the HPM-10 is much better than I thought.

I discovered software (someone mentioned it on Esato) called Diet MP3 which allows you to compress MP3 files - you lose a bit of quality but the sound is still quite impressive coming out of a device as small and sexy as the HPM-10. This morning I put more than 20 songs on my 32MB MMC card and there's still room left - and I'm not even using the highest level of compression.

The trial version of the software limits you to 15 compressions but I found a way around that

Please don't ask me how I got around the restriction. I am a programmer and only did it for testing purposes and to satisfy my own ego

i think MMC cards must have been much better designed than smartmedia. It seems devices several years old when only 8 or 16 mb cards were available are able tou use 128mb cards, whereas devices designed to use 32 and 64mb smartmedia cards require complex firmware upgrades to use higher capacities. I used to us only smartmedia for my digital camera, but now I have an HPM-10 and a PDA that uses MMC I do think they are probably better. This post was posted from a WAP device

Do it better: buy a 128 Mb MMC Card and you won't have 2 use this crap. It's not CD like anymore.

I know what you mean. I guess I'll just use this until I get a 128MB card. They're not easy to find in this country so I'm waiting for someone to get it for me from overseas. At the same time, customs are high so I need to get it myself from overseas.

A friend of mine in the US told me that he got a 256MB card for his HPM-10. That must be amazing. It's not a MMC card but it's the same size and it sure works he says. I'll get that one better than the 128MB card. I hear it's around $169 or so. Pretty reasonable for what you're getting, eh?

Ok. I understand. I had pretty much luck with my 128 Mb card. I got it from Ebay (103 €/$). Customs sucks. Poor guy! I feel with you.
Are'nt you able to order something from another country (US/Germany / UK...) and pay by credit card? I could buy something in the US, if I would like 2.
