I have 2 SE P900s - one ex-Orange UK branded phone and the other is non-branded.

I connected the non-branded one to my DSS-25 and ran SE's Update Service last night. Update went well but what I would like to know is what type of files are the 19.6MB of files that SEUS downloaded to my PC to do the update?

The file names and sizes are shown here:-

Sony Ericsson Update Service downloaded P900 files
=======================================

HL1_12529_030912_1435_R5D (146KB)
HL1_162021_000000_0000_R5B02 (12.6MB)
HL1_162022_000000_0000_R3D011 (873KB)
HL1_CDA1620035.bin_000000_0000_R5A07 (4.79MB)
HL1_CDA1620035.img_000000_0000_R5A07 (1.17MB)

Are any of these files AVR, ARM, GDFS, SBN or other flash files?

By the way, the firmware in the updated P900 is:-

Phone: CXC162022 R3D011
Bluetooth: CXC12529 R5D
Organiser: CXC162021 R5B02
CDA: CDA162003/5 R5A07

Thanks,

Mark

these files contain the data that is flash to different parts of the ROM. explanation as follows.

HL1_12529_030912_1435_R5D (146KB) - Bluetooth firmware, this is flashed onto a chip that controls the bluetooth part of the phone! sometimes this might be the only change in a firmware!

HL1_162021_000000_0000_R5B02 (12.6MB) - The organiser software i.e. the symbian operatin system uiq 2.1, all the preinstalled apps menus all the system files, etc!

HL1_162022_000000_0000_R3D011 (873KB) - The phone firmware i.e. GSM ROM part / chip - controls basic GSM functions i.e.
communicating with the network, hence small size.

HL1_CDA1620035.bin_000000_0000_R5A07 (4.79MB) - Binary data for CDA

HL1_CDA1620035.img_000000_0000_R5A07 (1.17MB) - Other Data for CDA

Please note im not sure what CDA is but obviously its an important part of the phone!

I remember trying to open the .img files with and iso reader i think it may have worked. The files are all binary data i beleive,

I am very interested that you have made this post! I have tried before to download unbranded firmware by placeing and unbranded p9xx in the cradle then putting a branded one in the cradle copying the files renaming them to filenames of the branded files then trying to trick it into flashing the branded one with unbranded this seemed to work but actually it re downloaded the branded files so i think these files obviously contain some sort of header in them saying what firmware they are, if you can find this and change it we could probably quite easily flash p900 - p910 latest firmware using the cradle and debrand phones! you have any ideas.

Hmm my CDA is CDA162003/1 R5A07 and if I try to update I'm told there is not a newer update for my P900...?¿?

Foxhunter - You have the latest version for your Country/Service Provider - 'R5A07'.

The difference in yours and my CDA numbers are:-

CDA162003/1- English, Swedish (SV), Danish (DA), Finnish (FI), Norwegian (NO)
CDA162003/5 - English (UK)

By the way, my 'branded' P900 is CDA162004/3:-
CDA162004/3 - P900/Orange - UK

Hope that helps.

I read on another forum that the reason why we cannot unbrand our P900s using Sony Ericsson's update Service (SEUS) was that it checks the IMEI (serial) number against a database and 'knows' what your original firmware was. Not so I believe - because I changed the IMEI in my Orange UK phone to the same IMEI of my non-branded phone and tried SEUS. SEUS ignored the IMEI and found the CDA, i.e. the Orange UK one, and wouldn't do an update.

So my view is that the reason why we cannot unbrand using Sony Ericsson's update Service is that the SEUS checks the CDA version in our phones.

I know with the SE T610 unbranding can be achieved by flashing non-branded ARM, AVR and GDFS files using a program like PBB SE v2.2 (cracked). I am hoping that I can do the same with my P900.

OK, I have just found out what sort of files some of these are and added that after the filenames.

Sony Ericsson Update Service downloaded P900 files
=======================================

HL1_12529_030912_1435_R5D (146KB) "ARM" (Bluetooth)
HL1_162021_000000_0000_R5B02 (12.6MB) (Symbian PDA) 'Operating System' maybe??
HL1_162022_000000_0000_R3D011 (873KB) "AVR" (Phone)
HL1_CDA1620035.bin_000000_0000_R5A07 (4.79MB) (PDA) 'BIN' file maybe??
HL1_CDA1620035.img_000000_0000_R5A07 (1.17MB) (Complete PDA)

So, I now know which are the AVR and ARM files but still don't know IF one of the others is a GDFS flash file.

It seems to me that the critical file we need changed is the branded CDA one.

Anyone else got any more ideas or clues?

Oh, by the way, if anyone would like copies of the non-branded files (that SEUS downloaded to my PC when it updated my non-branded phone) so that they can have a play with them, PM or email me and I'll set up an FTP link for your.

nope. I've upgraded mine via the SEUS. It works a treat. Whether or not I can update the software is another question..... (I haven't had to try it yet!)

Absolutely right. Except if you know how to get around what your PC tells SEUS........

OK pikey100! When I tried an update with my original IMEI and Orange firmware (CDA is 162004/3), SEUS said there was no updates available for my phone.

I tried again but typed in the CDA 162003/5 instead. Same response as before i.e. SEUS read my actual firmware version.

Tried SEUS again after changing the IMEI to the same as my non-branded phone, typed in the CDA 162003/5 instead of 136004/3. Same response as before i.e. SEUS read my actual firmware version.

So pikey 100....how about spilling the beans on "how to get around what your PC tells SEUS."?

greetings! i was reading about every thread in the net howto flash an unbranded version on my branded p900..
this are my results (16.10.05):

flash with a special hardware dongle:
working, but not pretty cheap at all

the "get around what your PC tells SEUS" thing:
possible! it exists a hack for this wich translates the cda your phone is telling your PC into a cda of your choice.. this is currently working for P910i
not working for P900 since R5B02 due to a newly implemented IMEI test wich allows S/// to check if you REALLY got an unbranded one (the cda translation still works)
this was tested by myself

the "copy and rename unbranded filed into SEUS" thing:
not working! like already said here, seus checks some header in the files and downloads them again if they dont match..

BUT impossible is nothing:
it may be possible to write a tool wich copies the unbranded files in the SEUS folder immediately if SEUS changes them.. this should work because i dont believe that it checks the files again after downloading new ones. SEUS begins flashing right after completing the download!
or
someone knows a tool wich can flash the unbranded files through DSS20/25 (including the unknown cda ones)
or
writing a little SEUS-modification wich let it skip the filecheck
or
change IMEI to an unbranded one, update with "PC tells SEUS", change IMEI back to original

so...
writing the modification would be a lot of work because restarting SEUS and bring it to the download point takes so much time!

the file-copy tool would be no problem to program for me..

but the IMEI change thing would be perfect! cant blow up your phone this way..

so how do i change IMEI, and wich would be an unbranded number?
has someone tryd this already?
some productive responses would be really helpful! i already read so much nonsense in all those flashing threads

greetings
me
