When I put my P910 in flight mode, Bluetooth is not accessible anymore (I'm assuming this is the general behaviour and not some weird quirk of my Pee). This can be really annoying, especially when e.g. trying to use a Bluetooth keyboard in a non-GSM area (conveniently ignoring for the moment the fact that, if they knew, they'd probably outlaw BT there as well!).

Does anyone know of a hack, or maybe a third party application, that will allow the use of BT in flight mode? Not by simply putting the phone in "ignore all" mode, that is.

presumably not, because the point of flight mode is to disable emission of radio waves of any kind. This message was posted from a T610

I perfectly understand what the /point/ of flight mode is; I merely wanted to know how sharp they made it.

So, again: does anyone know of a way to hack Bluetooth into "on" while in flight mode?

Without rewriting the firmware files you wont be able to have bt on when in flight mode.

The whole point of flight mode is to turn off the radio. Phone service and BT both are considered radio, so no. It's all or nothing.

With respect, if you truly did, you wouldn't even be trying to activate BT in-flight.

It's an irresponsible question to ask on this forum.

And jumping to conclusions is stupid. I never said anything about using BT on a plane (although I actually shudder at the thought that a plane's electronics might be so fragile that a simple BT transmission could fork it up!).

Have you ever considered the possibility that I might have a need occasionally for using the Pee as a PDA only, in which case having the phone on would be a complete waste of milliAmps?

Well it's not a question of the flight systems being susceptible to rf emissions, but other systems, eg fire warning, are not as well shielded. Imagine how popular you'd be if the aircraft needed to divert due to a warning that your device had triggered.

This is going to be my last reply on this off-topic part of the thread.

Imagine the headlines: Plane Grounded by Milliwatt Radio! [*]

Why'd Al Qaeda bother with box cutters? Just stuff a bag full of working cellphones...
____

[*] On second thought: that could never be a headline in a US newspaper. Nobody'd understand it...
