When SE Customer Support(!) asked me to do a Master Reset to resolve a music player problem, the P910i went into Chinese as the main language. They asked me to 'just send it and wait for, say, 10 to 15 days!'!
Fortunately I have managed to do a restore from my laptop's backup. But now Folder Titles and a number of options come up in Chinese, tho' my Contacts are in English and the phone at least works. I would love to learn Chinese someday, but right now, none of the language files match at their global support site match my settings:
CXC162042 R4D006 (something in Chinese)
CXC162028/1 R2F (Bluetooth)
CXC162044 R4A02 (something in Chinese)
CDA162005/11 R4A02 (CDA)
I need to set American English as the main language choice. I need help and need to also know if there are othe non-SE sites that can be more helpful with this. Thanks! I am a new member and I love this site!

somehow, I don't think you have a P910"i". more likely a "c"... anyway, try identifying what exactly your phone is, then install the American English language package for you specific F/W version. Don't mix them up as you'l most probably end up with an unusable phone.

Thanks, Judge. The box and the manual say 'i' and not 'c'. How do I make sure that it really is an 'i' ? (I did manage to install the American English once before with R4A01 as recommended by SE support. Everything worked except for Music Player. That is when they suggested the Master Reset and all my troubles began ...!)
I appreciate your feedback. Even if this is a 'c', we shd be able to install American English on it. Right?

try looking on the inner sticker (behind the battery) and see what it reads.
also, try to format the intern disk instead of performing a regular "master reset". after the format, the phone will present you with the option to select the default language.
please be aware that after a format, you are usually left with only one language - in my case UK English. if your P910 is a c, you may be left only with Chinese. I'm not sure about this, so maybe someone on the forum who actually owns a c will be able to tell us what language a c is left with after format.
anyway, I highly recommend a format in your case, because it wipes absolutely everything on the phone and you'll be able to determine if your language problem is firmware related or not.
please backup all your data before performing the update, as it will remove absolutely everything. after the format, if your default language is indeed US English, do not restore your data to the phone, as it may revert back to Chinese (so synch your contacts before the format), then manually reinstall all aps.
Good luck ans please go ahead with thi only if your confortable with your Symbian OS knowledge.

Thanks again Judge. A quick update: I did find someone who knew enough Chinese to guide me right. I selected 'American English' as the language option and installed it. It worked. But, now I am back with the original problem of Music Player not working and a few other small bugs.
When Music Player is pressed, I get 'Program Closed. Program Audio. Reason code BAFL. Reason number 4.'
On the back, behind the battery, it does say 'RBA P910i 1447/48 RBA Type FAB - 102 1012 - CN EDBBDBH. CDA 162005/11 R4A'
I will give a feedback after I try the internal drive format, when I manage to get a spare phone for backup.

definitely an i, then. if you haven't so far, you might want to use the online update service - this will update the firmware, reformat the internal disk, and allow you to choose a new default language. good luck!

I had the same BAFL and music player problem with my p910i. It started when I installed the American English LAnguage pack. I reinstalled the UK English language pack and my music player is back to normal.
Hope that helps.

Here's your error:
http://www.symbian.com/develo[....]/BAFLPanics.html#BAFL%2epanics
"4 This panic is raised by the Read...() member functions and the Advance() member function of TResourceReader, when the current position in the resource buffer is moved beyond the end of the buffer."
This error clearly means to me that the program is not finding the correct strings where they are supposed to be.
Seems to me you are installing the wrong language version of the files, a version that doesn't match the software version.
