or yellow? or whatever? what's wrong with some more subdued colors? not everyone who wants a walkman phone wants a phone that looks THAT fun. i myself likes the concept of the walkman phones, but why can't it be a quiet, subtle shade? even sony network walkmans don't look that loud. why can't SE make a walkman phone similar to the NW-HD1?

If you ever tried to get an answer to that question from one of their execs you'd probably hear about "market research", "target segment" blah blah blah... All of which means they're aiming at a much younger generation than was the case when technology really took off in the late '80s... This message was posted from a Nokia

The W550 will have changable colours so you wont be restricted to orange.

i still think the optional colors are too bright. and yes, i know about market segmentation. however, i would assume that the walkman and walkman phones are targeted at the SAME segment, so why the different positioning of both?

They do.. it's called the K750i

Hehehe... seriously... apart from the included 512MB and the newer headphones... these 2 phones are nearly identical. The K750i would fit your needs just as much as the W800 would.

Market segmentation notwithstanding, i'd agree there are times when we, the end-users, are baffled at the decisions taken by the powers-that-be... I mean, take the issue with the squeaky battery cover on (some) SE models. Surely they could've designed something better by now, yet they don't. In fact, their silence is deafening. true indeed, kryptik. why don't SE just hold a contest or something that lets us users vote off a series of designs, with the final design making production line? or maybe built our own custom phone with the specs we need? that would be excellent

I actually read an article some time back where a futurologist speculated that such a time would come, when one would be able to specify exactly what went into your phone... Damn pity one couldn't do that right now. As for the colour issue, i couldn't agree more. Muted hues are much more attractive and easy on the eye. This message was posted from a Nokia

Yup, I guess this is the very "1st" mobile that ever released donning a quite 'unique' color
