Just upgraded to the above firmware but have not done a master reset. Is master reset needed as the new firmware has made a few good changes and im guessing if i do master reset i will lose everything on my phone?!!

There's almost never a reason to do a master reset. The problem is that here at Esato people tend to recommend it as soon as somebody makes a post. You will lose valuable information, and even if you have a recent backup, there are items that can not be restored (i.e. some games).

Only do a master reset when it's known it's needed. A good example is the trick mentioned in another thread about a trick to make the SEUS work for some phones that have problems with it. You could say that a master reset is the last resort before leaving your phone at a service shop

if you don't find any changes in your phone i.e. bugs freezing etc., then master reset is not needed. if however you do so, backup your contacts and other imp. data. it all gets erased during master reset.

See what I mean... people lacking knowledge recommends the only thing they know - master reset!

A few years back you could come to Esato for descent, kind and truly helpful information. Now it's mostly children here writing nonsens during their break from lecture...

A master reset can often fix some problems but really should only used as a last resort if other fixes dont work. I have used master reset to fix problems before like to fix a problem I had with my T630 not working properly with BT and IR, but after a reset it worked perfectly.

Both yes and no! I was using your post to show that "master reset" is a far to common recommendation nowadays; your post implied that if somebody has a problem, a master reset should be performed. That's just the wrong answer in my opinion! There are so many people who got the recommendation to do a master reset, and then they got angry for losing stuff... you see, doing a full backup doesn't restore what people can't backup - it's as simple as that!

So, let's be careful from now on before telling people to do a master reset as a first solution... it should be the last solution recommended
