it doesn't seem as bright as when i first bought it, which could be a real bother if it gets worse. does phone screens have a working life span? what could affect the quality or durability of the screen?

no, but if its beginning to seem less bright, it could be due to dust under the screen or very small scratches on the screen.

couldn't be stratches, i have a screen protector on. and dust? i opened it once but made sure no dust got there, even checked up close. nothing.
but i do tend to keep it in my jeans a lot, which could get real hot and humid .

LCD displays do have a limited lifetime! I don't know the lifetime of the displays that SE uses, but the last kitchen television I bought has a LCD burning lifetime of 40.000 hours. I do sincerely think that the lifetime on the display of phones are a lot less than that though. I have a T68i where the screen is almost dead... and my T610 is only about half as bright as it was when I bought it... a friend of mine has two different K700. One new and one 12 months old. The display is so different on them, I could tell for sure it's fading...

LCD screens do have a limited lifespan, but they do not fade noticeably for a very long time (years) during that lifespan, and the lifespan of LCD's even in mobiles are much longer than the average usagetime of the mobile. Even if it was only half of your kitchen television say 20.000 hours, then try calculating with an average usage with lit screen on your mobile for 1 hours a day, how many days before its dead. Thats 20.000 days, or 54 years.
Even if the lifespan was only a quarter of your kitchen televisons, its still 27 years.

Id like to see someone with a 54 year old T610

Im sorry Cybervisitor but I dont beleive your T610 is only half as bright as when you bought it, I do beleive though that your memory of how bright it was when you bought it has changed during the time youve had it, and are influenced by how the screen of your current mobile look.

Comparing and older mobile with a new doesnt say anything either, as the screens used in manufacturing changes. Ive compared many brandnew mobiles where the screens looked differently, and the screen of my 2 year old T610 has allways looked better than any of those new T610's Ive bought as companymobiles during these 2 years, and it still does.

I agree!

No matter how I calculate the screen shouldn't be fading on my T610. And the screen on my T68i shouldn't be so dark... yet they are!

I have noticed that all LCD television sets have a note on how long duration they have, but phones with LCD displays doesn't. I think - but I have no technical support for it - that the lifetime is far less though.

I support every word you say, but yet I have these fading LCD screens. Your thought about me "thinking" that the screen on my T610 "used to be brighter" could very well be correct - no doubt!

Yet I stand by my thoughts that LCD screens on phones have a much lower lifetime (burn time) than those on television sets.

When I bought my last television set (LCD) I asked the sales person how the screen will "die" and he said it will fade over the last years, so on that point I disagre on you (well, the sales person disagres I guess).

It's an interesting subject, and hopefully people with knowledge on LCD screens will leave their opinion.
