Well its my 3rd day enjoying FIDO's cell phone service in Toronto. Already I see some improvements (2nd day using GPRS): westbound of Victoria Park on Kingston Rd WAPping isnt a problem when compared to the jaggernaut Rogers AT&T, Also more solid GPRS surfing, and finally very quick response to questions/solutions/adding features with FIDO that Rogers AT&T has never as a whole been able to match--even when I worked there for 8 mths (and I was very efficient)!
I called today to ask if why cant I send/receive email DIRECTLY from my T39m phone?! The rep there first verified my password, then actually got someone from technical support in FIDO within 1 minute (Rogers policy as well for putting a customer on hold, but can never follow from call to call). This person, Mark, actually new what I wanted and how to help me using my T39m phone?!?!!!! AMAZING. I'll shed some light as to why....
First off, FIDO allows direct email to a subscribers phone without the need to pay more for this service, nor the expense of paying $650 after taxes (Canadian) for a PC card for a laptop which I dont own. And lastly on this point, is I dont have to WAP several pages (costing me more $$ just to enter my email info) to finally view my email. Secondly, he knew what phone I was using and never put me on hold to actually go thru the menus & steps fluently!
NONE of this is at all possible in a 5 minute phone call from ROGERS AT&T Wireless in Canada. Also I was able to use this email feature on my phone immediately after the phone call!!!!!
Cudo's to FIDO. Theyre the only ones that'll allow email access (POP) directly to your phone, in Canada!
This is my personal experience, and I do hope non of you are mad or offended by it.
Cheers

Hi! That seems to be exactly what I want to do...Fido is sort of attempting to help me, but the agent seems to insist that I can only send email via SMS.
Can you shed some light on the settings? I can WAP fine, but despite setting up my email correctly (or so I think), when I try to send an email, I get a "server not found" message after "looking for server, connecting".
Basically, I think that for some reason it can't connect to my POP3 server, or gprs.fido.ca, which I set as my SMTP server.
I am of course using the T39m as well.
Thanks!

First off your gateway in your Messages-options-email should be for internet.fido.ca not what you setup. Call Fido and ask them for Internet settings; what I mean is for you to access your Sympatico.ca account via internet client in your T39m (doesnt matter if you got one or not--just helps the rep, if a newbie, understand that you dont what email via SMS).
Go to Settings-Data com then create a new account call it Internet with no IP or DNS username Fido and Password Fido, then save. But you must have the rep ENABLE it on your account seperate from GPRS. This is the only way it'll work. Also this new data account in your phone will allow your T39m to be used as a modem.
Cheers.

how long it took Fido to bee like that, about 4-5 years of services, and they only got it working last month, but rogers just launch there GSM services 5 month ago, we shouldn't expect it to be good at list till the end of the year. trust me they will be the strongest GSM service provider in north America, and the will wipe Fido off the road...
good luck with your Fido

I had spent 2 hrs with Fido regarding setting upi my email in Sony Ericsson Z710i. I have then spent 2 more hrs with Sony Ericsson Canada to setup my email and it stll doesnot work.
I tried sending email and it is not working. It is a great phone but the rep at Fido do not know how to set it up. They have my GPRS activated but it still is not working. I have changed 2 handsets thinking that they maybe defective as the rep at fido said they were.
