My contract with Vodafone is up in 6 weeks but I'm pretty impatient and want a new phone now!

What I want to know is, if I take out a new contract, is there a time limit on when I can port my number over ? (never done it before). In other words, can I take out a new contract now and port the number as soon as Vodafone will let me?

I will be sticking with Vodafone but want an unbranded phone which will definitely be cheaper if it's not an upgrade.

Thanks!
Sarah

If you port your number across after you have taken out your contacrt you will usually get charged to transfer it by the new company. They was gonna charge me £74 we i tried to do it

What company were charging for porting? I have ported several numbers from Vodafone and O2 and never been charged to go from one to another.

Maybe it's if you are doing it after a bit of a delay. I can imagine they'd want to charge you if you want to port it to an existing contract rather than as you're starting a a new one.

Just let you know what i did.

A phone with a new contract is indeed cheaper than an upgrade.

I simply rang up to cancell my contract, when they asked why i told them that the phone i wanted was £60 with a new 02 contract but 200 on upgrade they said they would price match me for the upgrade, phone arrived 4 days later i keep my number and my excellent contract.

Aparently it costs them more to start up a new contract than it is to give the phone

Thanks for that DJ. Just spoke to Vodafone and they want £150 for the phone I want on upgrade. No thank you! So, will do my research and then blackmail them or start a new contract.

Interesting to know that it can be done...
