This is probably a really stupid question (how many times have you heard that?) but I can't find the answer... I'm thinking of getting a P910 to replace my ageing P800, but I want to know if it'll be any better as a music player and, principally, play the MP4 tracks that my PC is now full of, since I got my girlfriend an Ipod.

The P800 can't, but I found my friend's K750 can, so I'm hopeful that the P910 can take the place of the Ipod Shuffle I might have bought otherwise and play these as well. Can it?

of course buy a 2 gig memory card and be happy,..i have a 1gb and store a large amount of songs on it as it is plus chemos vids and apps. When i get the 2 gb its going to be over lol. Also, finding a better mp3 app for the 910 is my quest becasue i hate the updating status on the stock one its insane.

2gb does sound tempting.. ok, cool, I can use the itunes... dissapointed to hear about the status thing tho, I guess that's the same as the P800's where it stops playing everytime you switch to it to update it's list, even tho nothing's changed - very annoying.

Thought I'd throw a little imput in here since I use my P910a as a music device and have used every aftermarket mp3 software that I can find for it. I bought a 1 gb msduo pro in high hopes that I would be able to use my p910a and not have to carry an extra music device. They best music software I found is OggPlay. It separates your songs into artist, album, genre, etc. and has a pretty good interface(flip open and closed). I thought I would be satisfied with this setup, but quickly realized I wouldn't be. Here are the problems.
1. Track skipping. If you decide to do anything else on your phone you can count on some skipping in every program i tried. Not terrible, mostly when songs are beginning, but far from perfect. The more, or bigger, apps you run in the background the worse it gets.
2. Battery Life. I realized on a trip to Texas that I really didn't wanna be wasting my phone battery on music. I wanted that saved for other important tasks....like making phone calls. Listening to music drastically reduces your battery life. Better have a spare battery or don't plan on listening much on long trips without a place to charge.
3. Damage to Phone. Maybe I'm just more protective than others, but I just found it difficult to use my phone as a music device in alot of situations. I didn't really wanna take my expensive phone on the beach to listen to music. Working out while using it is a nightmare. It's just not very practical to use in the times that I really wanted to use it the most.
4. Practicality. It's just not easy to use a P910 as a music device. Sure it can be done, and there are times when I will likely still use it as such. But it's just too much to hassle with. It has several strikes against it that it will never overcome. Limited storage. I got so excited when I got my 1gig card, but really... 1 gig? 2 gigs? We're still talking in small numbers here. The biggest strike is it's usability though.
I finally gave up on my trusty P910a and got myself a 20 gb Ipod color. Wish I had done that a year or so ago before wasting all that money on P910 software, headsets, and headset adapters. If all you have in mind is light use the P910 will get you by. But if you want a real mp3 player, get a real mp3 player. I mean, a 2 gb card cost about the same as an iPod Nano. It's a no-brainer to me now. Just a quick word on mp3 players, before I bought my Ipod( which is a wonderful device) I bought a creative zen micro. I wanted something differnent than an ipod since everyone has them. I bought the zen micro and returned it within 12 hrs. The touch navigation pad and touch controls are terrible. I thought the addition of an FM radio would be nice. But the radio had sketchy reception so it wasn't that nice. I tried out the Ipod nano the other day. While it is pricy, it's the coolest mp3 player I've ever seen. Just not enough storage for me.
Ok I'm done. How did this get so long?

Thanks for that Getagrip. You make some good points, and I'm sure the P910 is no real match for an ipod; I just like the convenience of the one-device solution, and to be honest I am only a fairly light user - my trusty old P800 has served fairly well, I just crave more songs really, and even a smallish 2gb stick will be a huge improvement on the 128mb I'm used to (especially when half of that is currently taken up with apps).

I'll be sure to keep the P800's battery topped up as a spare

getagrip is right, but if u get urself a SP8aa from www.pc-mobile.net and add (the top-part of) HPM 70 (available @ www.mobilebee.com and with all w800s ofcourse ), + 2gig MS card + powermp3 2, u r a happy man.

Just use a carry case when u r working out or having some happy times on the beach, u will be fine.
