News Report:
RP's Quigaman is new Miss International
By JOY GRATE/abs-cbnNEWS.com
Precious Lara Quigaman of the Philippines was crowned Monday night in Tokyo, Japan as the 2005 Miss International--becoming the fourth Filipino to have bagged the prestigious title.
The 5-foot-6 London-based Quigaman bested other 52 bets in the prestigious beauty pageant.
Miss Dominican Republic Yadira Geara Cury, 19, was first runner-up, while Miss Finland Susanna Laine, 23, was the second runner-up.
In an interview with ABS-CBN's "The Insider," Quigaman said she dedicates her triumph to her father, Nelson Quigaman, who passed away only four months ago.
"It was my father who said that I would win, and I dedicate my victory to him," Quigaman said.
The 22-year old fashion model admitted that she did not expect to bring home the crown but gave her best and tried to enjoy the pageant just the same knowing that it would be a once-in-a-liftetime experience.
At Malaca馻n, President Arroyo congratulated Quigaman for what she said was another feat for the Filipino.
"On behalf of all Filipinos, I congratulate Precious Lara Quigaman for winning the Miss International title. She joins a long list of Filipinas who have brought our country honor and prestige, not only for their beauty, but also for their intelligence, charm and grace," the President said in a statement.
The President said Quigaman should be a role model for young Filipino women.
Quigaman becomes the fourth Filipino to be crowned Miss International after Gemma Cruz, Aurora Pijuan and Melanie Marquez.
The three former Miss International titlists, Quigaman admitted, were her role models.
Asked, however, if she would like to follow in their footsteps such as pursuing a career in show business, the 22-year old fashion model replied with hesitation: "I will take it a day at a time."
The eldest of four children, Quigaman, was born in Taguig and grew up in Laguna. She is currently a webwriter. She graduated with a degree in Media Production and Communications at Filton College in the United Kingdom. She also took up Bachelor of Arts in Childhood and Youth Studies at Bristol University.
She is the daughter of Princesita Quigaman, a registered nurse in Bristol, United Kingdom, and Nelson, who died in May from a car accident.

Some Q&A with Lara Quigaman:
WHO AMONG THE PAST BB. PILIPINAS WINNERS DO YOU ADMIRE?
Carla Balingit because I have met her in person and she has the loveliest personality. She exudes great confidence that does not intimidate anyone. She's also beautiful and a great role model to everyone.
RICH? BEAUTIFUL? SMART?
Beautiful of course! Being smart can be acquired through difference sources such as books, media, and through experience. Being rich, on the other hand, can be acquired through hard work and perseverance.
WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT JOINING BB. PILIPINAS?
The great opportunity that comes with it. The opportunity to make lifetime friends. The opportunity to further my career. The opportunity to be of help to others and to be an inspiration and a role model. The opportunity to know myself more and become a better person.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A FILIPINA?
The best thing about being a Filipina is that you can be at par with the rest of the women in the world and still be a woman of character.
HOW DO YOU STAY BEAUTIFUL?
By exuding a kind and warm personality and attitude to everyone. In this way, I can be beautiful to them because they'll like me. After all, being beautiful is not just about looking good in the outside, its also about showing our goodness in the inside.
IN YOUR DICTIONARY, HOW DO YOU DEFINE A SEXY WOMAN?
A woman is sexy when she's confident and content with who she is and how she looks. She may be very fat or very thin but she will always look sexy when she thinks she does.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DESTINATION IN THE COUNTRY?
Ligao, Albay, Bicol, other than seeing a great view of the Mayon Volcano, it is also the hometown of my father where he always welcomes with warmth and love.
WHO IS THE FIRST PERSON YOU'D CALL AFTER WINNING THE CROWN? WHAT WILL YOU TELL THAT PERSON?
I'd call the person who never believes that I would make it and tell him the "good news" and perhaps change his attitude about me.
IF YOU'D BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO WIN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE: BB. PILIPINAS-WORLD? BB. PILIPINAS-UNIVERSE? BB. PILIPINAS- INTERNATIONAL?
I used to say "I want to represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe Pageant," but recently I've researched about the Miss World beauty pageant and their cause inspires me. They are involved in a lot of charity works that focus on children's need, etc. This is what I want to get myself involve in. I want to make use of my time in helping the children. But saying all that, I'd be happy to win any of the other titles.

@jim - Yep ! 101% at that matey ! Though when she was interviewed last night (local time), she has this American/British (slight) accent. Maybe she prepared for this as she was joining an International contest.

@neonismo - Did she become your girl

I've made notice that Filipina bears good looking kids when paired with foreign males (American/British/Chinese etc.) Just my opinion here mates
