Hi,

I have a 2003 BMW 530i E39 with full comms pack including bluetooth. My P910i is paired and works fine through the car but I cannot view phone book entries (or sms although thats not such an issue).

My old Nokia 6310i allowed me to access the ful phonebook which was really useful for caller id. Is there any way I can enable this on the P910i ?

not possible

the phonebook IS correctly transferred (that's why you see them for 10s after pairing)

...but the bug is here the P910 does not send the identification string the BMW wants/needs, to associate the right phonebook with the right phone.

The BMW BT ULF unit (made by VISTEON) has upto 4 profiles for 4 different phones, and thus it stores upto 4 different phonebooks.
A phone needs a paircode to connect to the BMW (works) but seemingly it 'forgets' to send the same code again for the phonebook authorization.

Now since the P910 does not tell BMW who he is, the BMW will automatically mask all phonebook entries for this phone, despite being the right phone, because it thinks the phone which just paired with it has not given the ID to access the phonebook associated with it.

Just pair a DIFFERENT phone with phonebook support... after pairing, the original P910 phonebook will be shown for 10s !!! it is still there, but the BMW just doesn't allow you to see it.

Clearly a bug of SE, but they refuse to fix it ("it should work but is not tested blahblah"), as several BMW owners asked them already, we all got the same reply: "Buy an SE kit instead" ...

Most other carbrands suffer same issue with SE smartphones. SE just doesn't seem to care... W800 works great, none of P series work correctly...

workaround: use voice dialling instead of phonebook

Many thanks for the swift and informative response ... surely there must be some clever soul out there with a P910i and an E39 who could right a patch for the P910 to re-send the code.
