ok i got a 120gb and a 80gb disk in one of my pc's and i am tryin to transfer the 80gb to a diff pc.......i always manage to do it....

this is the break down

80gb = win 2000
120gb = xp

i have set it up so that at the boot, in dos mode it will gime like 3 secs for me to decide which 2 choose or it will just go straight to xp

so.....

i take out the 80gb, start up the pc, and BOOT DISK FAILURE blah blah, now why wont it just boot straight to xp with only one hard disk in.........

one more thing

it manages to boot if i take out the 120gb and leave in the 80gb but that wud effeectively mean i wud be using my 3 year old stuff lol

@@@@@@@@
Yes i have tried goin into the set-up and selecting it to boot the 120gb hard disk FIRST then disable 2,3,4 but it still says failed.....

It's because the master boot record (which is what your pop up three-second text prompt asking you which os you want relies on) is stored on the 80Gb drive, not the 120.

The bad news is, there's absolutely nothing you can do about it

yup i just been relookin over the settings and the boot.ini wont load from the xp hard disk!!! only the win200 hard disk
!!!

u know..llet me break it down if i was confusing there lol

this is basically what my boot.ini file is

Default
disk 0
OS's
WINDOWS (WIN XP) disk 1
WIN NT (WIN 2000) Disk 0

so i copied over the boot.ini over to the win xp disk and obviously changed some of the settings in the boot.ini and yes...failed to load again

why does the cmos not load the boot.ini in the xp drive?

even on the windows xp when u go to manually edit the boot.ini from "System" inside control panel it is actually editing the boot.ini on the win2000 drive and not creating its own boot.ini
