> Digitel's Mango (CDMA) (Philippines)
Bookmark topic
Not many people know about it but Digitel came out with a service called Mobility Access Network for the Man on the Go (MANGO)... it's a "Wireless Internet-Ready Landline".
Gives you limited mobility which allows you to go around the neigborhood, Unlimited local calls to landline subscribers, wireless Internet connection of up to 153 kbps at Php 0.25 per minute and enhanced cordless handset with SMS capability of Php 0.80 per message plus other special features.
Subscription cost is Php 600/month plus VAT (php 660.00).
It actually uses CDMA at 1900mhz but with a local number prefix (02) so all landline calls within metromanila are free.
Range is 5km radius from their initial base station located in Digitel's office along Libis. Phase 1 expansion includes areas within SM North and New Manila.
Future expansion would utilize cellsites of Sun Cellular.
Those who have CDMA phones could have their units programmed for Php 200. There are units also available ranging from the regular cellphone sized units to landline with dialtone enhancement. Cost ranges from Php 3,500 to Php 8,000.
Another marketing coup by the Gokongweis using cellular technology (CDMA) packaged as a landline subscription.

Just take note that this service is different from Sun...
Sun uses GSM while Mango uses CDMA.
Sun has (0922) prefix while Mango has (02) prefix
Sun uses GPRS at 25 centavos per kb with the speed equal to about 50 kbps while Mango charges 25 centavos per minute with speed up to 153 kbps.
Sun charges Php 350 unlimited Sun to Sun calls while Mango charges Php 660 (Php 600 + 10%VAT) for unlimited local calls (as long as area code is 02).

For wireless broadband check
www.airnet.com.ph
"The first mobile data service that delivers unbelievably fast speeds with true freedom of mobility anywhere within the service network."
Up to 1.4 Mbps data connection speed (typical user speeds of between 200 to 300 Kbps)
Fully portable anywhere within the network footprint (presently Makati)
Now let's go back to the topic
