Well more of a quarter life crisis, i have no idea what path i should take career wise, i thought i knew but now i am having doubts, I was wondering what people here do for a living, how they got their job and if they always knew that is what they wanted to do for a living?

Hmm...I guess mid-life is the best time to really decide what you want to continue doing for a living...

It took me a while to find a job I enjoyed. I'm 27, and have only just qualified as a psychiatric nurse. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do for a career when younger, apart from a period when I wanted to be a pilot in the RAF (I still want to learn to fly, and find the plane journey is a very enjoyable part of a holiday!). I kind of drifted into admin jobs, where I stayed for a few years, still unsure of what direction I wanted to go in.

I finally decided to give mental health nursing a try, after a mate started his nurse training. Strange, as I always remember saying I couldn't do a job like that! I'm really enjoying it so far, a career with plenty of prospects (though I'll never be super-rich!) and variety.

The best advice I can give you is to go for something that you enjoy doing, and don't try going for a job simply because it has loads of money involved in it. You'll be rich, but probably time-poor and stuck in a job you probably hate.

Exactly my thoughts, @slattery...well said...
I think you should do all the experimentation and research and get to a concrete decision on what really interests you as a career, by the age of 35. As they say... "Life begins at 40"

Personally, I hope to not continue working after the age of 45...an early retirement of sorts....and spend the rest of my life doing stuff that I've always wanted to do, but could never find the time coz of my work
Of course, I intend to save up enough moolah to sustain the post-45 phase which would also mean that I work my *ss off for the next 12 years or so...Im 33 now.

Having said that, I must add, that my current job as a manager in an IT services firm, is quite satisfying....and sometimes I wonder why I didn't get into this busines in the first place But anyway, c'est la vie, and I hope to make the most of whatever's left of my working years so that I can pursue my personal interests later in life, without any professional worries to dilute the post 45 yrs experience
