Namiss ko na yung mga kwentuhan and discussions about technology and gizmos so I'm starting this new thread.

This isn't the chit-chat thread. So, please don't bother posting if you don't have anything useful to add to the discussion.

For starters, let's talk about the creeping (re)deployment of CDMA in the Philippines.

We just found out that Broadband Philippines (airnet.com.ph) and Digitel are beggining to offer CDMA services.

My real interest however is their mobile/wireless internet service. Airtel claims better thoroughput than GPRS. (Will they try to compete with Pldt/Smart weroam service or Globe's Visibility service?)

airtel dialup is sloooww compared to wifi but comparable to GPRS.

dunno about speed in EV-DO areas (Makati CBD, Ortigas CBD).

EV-DO is being touted as among top, wireless broadband technologies today.

gowin, the airtel url you posted is for sale CDMA EV-DO is supposed to compete with EDGE. so how fast are you going with airtel?

619, you subscribed to mango na? i don't like the per minute charging. not attractive to me.

anybody has smart wi-fi already?

Airtel's EV-DO is suppose to be faster than EDGE as it is 3G compliant.

Interestingly, I've been searching for EV-DO devices in the market already to take advantage of their reasonable rates compared to unlimited PLDT WeRoam or Globe's unlimited gprs.

One seemingly good source is http://evdo-coverage.blogspot[....]g-rod-jolts-v620-v650-and.html

Since I'm a PDA user, I'm taking an interest in the Audiovox xv6600, a pocketpc phone with EVDO compatibility.... it may also serve as a bluetooth modem for other devices...

@dlreyes
try the following links
evdoforums.com
evdoinfo.com

@619
am trying to get my hands on the Kyocera KPC650 Looks like a better card than what they're offering and it's OSX compatible too.

Now we need to know if they'll activate this card on their network.

PS
SonyEricsson has an EV-DO phone, the WS21s:

EDIT
me bad. it's not airtel. it's AIRNET. Their useless URL is at airnet.com.ph

Local calls are free.
Internet rates P2 / 5 minutes.
Competitive NDD, IDD toll rates.

This could be an excellent topic for another tech EB.

trying to check the EVDO USb but I could not find any... I figure this would be a cheaper alternative.

Actually, if you're planning to get both data and voice service, you opt for a phone that suppoerts CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO, like the WS21S. There are also nice phones from the Koreans - LG, Samsung ...

But, yeah, plain USB modems would probably be cheaper. And you can easily move it from a laptop to a desktop machine - with whatever OS. (same thing applies with the EV-DO phone)

Background
The highspeed internet access in select CBDs uses EV-DO. Outside these areas, they fall back to 1xRTT. (The one we tried at Greenhills.)

We should have an eb at Ortigas or Makati.

will someone with nothing to do today , post a comparative costing from the different providers/subscription options?

Like this:

Smart Wi-Fi | 128kbps | P688 / month unlimited
PLDT WeRoam Mobile | 128kbps | P2,000 / month unlimited

ayan, nasimulan ko na... may gagawin na ko
