I have a p910i unlocked pay as you go on 02 - uk (genie sim ), i have uploaded im+ and virgin radio - sydus, they both use gprs to go online. My gprs connection fails all the time when using these applications . My internet works fine , but when i connect bluetooth to my pc i can access these applications no problem , as if its leaching off the pc . could it be the network i am using ?.If so which network in the uk is the best for using the internet/wap

I've not had much success either with the Virgin radio client (P910-> Post Pay-> Orange-> India). Maybe its with some versions and not the device or the network, maybe not.. From what am made to believe, O2 in GB is a good network to be on.. This message was posted from a S700

The problem is simply that an O2 UK PAYG account does not give proper Internet access via GPRS. Access is restricted to WAP sites only. You were right to assume that when your phone was connected to your PC, you were using the PC's Internet connection when running those apps.

But why this restriction? Go ask O2! It's a deliberate policy. There's no such issue with an O2 UK *contract* account.

You can, however, still access the Internet with your current SIM by using GSM dial-up, but that's probably not going to be of much practical use, and would cost an arm and a leg anyway on PAYG.

A workaround is obviously to get a SIM from another network, as you were getting at yourself. I'm on an Orange UK contract and am quite happy with their GPRS service. Their flat rate fees are reasonable too, relatively speaking. But if you're intent on a PAYG route, you'll obviously need to check out the specific pricing; maybe they're not so competitive.

Thanks for your replys following my post up

I gave o2 a call earlier on today as i wanted to enable http for large downloads from the p910 this could answer my main question why the phone was leaching from my pc via bluetooth . o2 said "they couldnt enable http which happens to be a link from 1 file to another to be able to download large files ... being a pay as you go coustomer i wouldnt be able to use the phone to its full Potential ..allthow they denied that my account was restricted when i told them this account has restrictions then came the suddent stutter stutter .... i would recomend you a pay monthly sim... which has no resrictions hmm.. its bad news

best thing to do is buy an orange pay as u go sim (£1 online!) u can browse full html and i think its slightly quicker than o2. also the advantages over o2 is wen u buy a bolt on ie 4meg for £4 once it has run out u can purchase a new one straight away. o2 u have to w8 another month!
also orange now do a one day unlimited access browsing for £1 which is gr8 if you want to download particularly large files and jus pay your pound if and when u need it
hope that helps!
