I have a Dick Smith Electronics Walkie Talkie which I occasianlly use for work.
It's an awkward, inconvenient thing to use, I'd much rather have PTT.
So would my Boss, unfortunately Vodafones PTT network is in it's infancy in NZ.

How does PTT work exactly? Is it location-specific or can you contact anyone on your network?

As I understand it... You buy a PTT capable mobile, then contact your Network provider and tell them you want to sign up to PTT.
They alter your plan and add the monthly charges for PTT services.
You are then able to send and recieve PTT messages 'walkie talkie style', to and from other people on your network, who have a PTT capable phone and who are also signed up to PTT services.
It's not a completely open forum though, only those you specify will recieve your message.
I've not tried it, but we may get it at work in the future, network permitting.
