with r66 it depends.....

The p900 version should be no problem as it's designed to fit on 128Mb sticks.

The p910 version may have issues. the maps are not split like those on the p900 version, and so may run over 256mb. which countries are you lookig at using, and i'll have a look.

Route66 Britain 2006 for P910 (running on my P905) takes up about 135mb for the map, so a 256mb stick should be ok.
The only problem is that Route66 needs most of the ram memory in the P905, so you need to use something like Sman to flush all other tasks before you run Route66 or you get out-of-memory errors.

I paid for R66 because I need the traffic routing - and cheaper than TomTom for this as you only pay the once for R66. Other traffic software like Traffic-i is about £30-40GBP pa so makes sense for me.
