i have a vizzavi email account which supports pop3. i used the email configurator at
www.sonyericssonmobile.com but when i try to send or recieve from my mobile i get error messages like server not found

Check that your "inc. server" is set to 'pop.vizzavi.co.uk' and mailbox is your 'username' ("E-mail address" should be 'username@vizzavi.net'). Also check that your "Outgoing server" is 'mail.vizzavi.co.uk, and for good measure you should re-enter your case-sensitive password as well.
This setup should work if you are dialling in via CSD data connection on +447836900808 but if you are using GPRS then make sure your APN is 'internet'.
