Route 66 2006 + SE P910i + Cellink BTG-7000 GPS receiver.
I now have all three of these and trying to get the lot to work together. Is there a set order that you switch things on ie BT receiver, phone Bluetooth, Route 66 as I cannot seem to get the program to acknowledge the GPS signal?
The GPS receiver manual is worst than useless having been written somewhere in the Far East, if you know what I mean.
Thanks
Doug

I tryed Route66 with a fortuna GPS with no problems, and there's no specific order you should follow.
My P910 has always the BT switched on and discoverable. When you execute Route66 it tryes to find any BT GPS so then it's better if you switch on the GPS before running the application.
If route 66 isn't able to find your gps, try to pair it before, in the phones' bluetooth devices. Also verify if your phone is discoverable/"visible to other devices" (don't know if this is realy necessary but can help).
Regards.

Before I return this GPS receiver, can you help again? I have had this setup for two days now and have had a signal twice, both times for about one minute.
I have followed the Route 66 directions on how to get this working. Switch on GPS, get signal, start Route 66, go to map view, pick destination, asks can connect to GPS receiver, say yes, can't because b/t not on. Say no, then up comes b/t connection screen, put b/t on, up comes pick device screen, nothing on there because GPS receiver not on discovery. (By the way, the GPS receiver is already paired in the phone, the box ticked for automatic connection). Set GPS to discovery, finds it but then the GPS receiver satellite connection is lost. And there it sits "no GPS"
By the way I have also tried the whole procedure with the b/t connection on at the start of the procedure and nothing changes.
What am I doing wrong please? THe phone firmware is R2 something and because of being Orange branded, the update service will not let me update it so it is what it is. Is this the problem?

This is a stupid question, I know, but I have to ask: are you trying this inside of a building? It looks like everything is working except aquiring sattelites and you should be outside for this to work correctly. Very bad weather can also difficult a good gps signal.
Regards.

HI Nuno. I have tried it both just inside and out. The big problem appears to be the GPS receiver. It states that two lights - a blue and a green flash together when a signal is received. When I first switch it on, even by a window inside, I get these lights. When the phone/program tries to find the receiver, even thought it is paired in the phone, I get an "available devices" screen and there is nothing in there to choose. The only way I can get a positive search for the receiver is to press a button on the GPS receiver that starts the discovery and it finds it. But then the satellite link is lost and the lights won't flash together. So no GPS signal. The weather is overcast but this caused no problems for the TomTom I had.
This id driving me mad. I feel like spending another £300 on a TomTom Go 300 because of the frustration. It should be easy.

Hi,
That's very strange. I think you're right, that must be a problem of that GPS receiver. Can you still return it? You should try Route66 with another BT GPS and see if it works ok. I don't see whatelse could be the problem.

I don't know if your problems are related to this, but I have a Star III BT GPS receiver and...
BE WARNED:
=> Bluetooth GPS receivers DO NOT LIKE TO BE AROUND PEOPLE !
That is, if they don't have an external atena !
- When they are acquiring signal, don't touch them!
Also:
- The more you move (i.e. in your car), the more difficult is for them to acquire the *first* signal.
- If they take too much time to acquire the *first* signal, turn them off then on again. The P910 will not complain.
- Route 66 *on start* usualy reports the GPS has no signal during the first 30 seconds or so after the GPS leds flash that has acquired a signal. This is normal.
After acquiring signal, I have no complaints whatsoever of my GPS.
It's very reliable, precise and never looses the signal in the city.
I'm using a GPSlim236:

Have fun

Thanks for that. I'm so hissed off with it I have returned it to the firm I bought it from. I am now about to order TomTom Mobile 5 for the P910i and hopefully, that should be an end to my problems.
Thanks for the imputs

A. If you're losing gps signal, it's not the software or the phone.
B. if you are losing GPS, then there are 2 possibilities:
1. the GPS reciever is rubbish or faulty
2. you are using the GPS where it is shielded.
If you are in a relatively modern car, or indoors, it's a 99% chance that the GPS reciever can't connect to the sattelites as it's shielded. Modern cars tend to have a coating on the windows to block UV light. They also very effectively block GPS signals! My r66 works fine in my old car, but won't work a jot in my dad's new renault. go figure! You'll need to install a GPS antenna in the car to get around this. (even with tomtom!)
