Alright, I know this is old hat now but now being on my third P910i, why can I not get my firmware updated by the Update Service? I get as far as "your operator has no updates available for this phone" and get bumped out.
I am on Orange, the phone has an Orange sticker on it but has been unlocked by its previous owner. I don't have the Orange World stuff/menus etc so presumably it has been flashed before. The firmware version is R2* but the latest version is R5*.
As the local SE Service Centre has shut down, I can't take in in to a shop to do it.
Is this the reason why it won't accept a flash?

when you try and do an update it reads your imei number and knows this was originally on orange. As orange have not updated the firmware in ages it will not let you put on any newer version.
You will need to get it reflashed at a sony ericsson service center if you want the latest firmware ..hope this helps

This page at uiqzone says that the latest version for Orange UK phones is R5B01, which came out in September:

But maybe uiqzone has got it wrong....

Thanks. It does say the latest is that one so why does it bump me out. Is it because it has been unlocked? I have had Orange P910i's from the start and apart from the initial ones that would not update, I have managed to do the last ones no problem. Then there's this one......
Thanks

I can only think that the phone has been flashed at some point in its past with non-Orange firmware (and you say yourself that it doesn't have the usual Orange guff on it). Therefore it isn't being recognised as a legitimate Orange phone. As I understand it, the fact that the phone's unlocked shouldn't affect the update procedure. But I've also read that using the SEUS would re-lock an unlocked phone -- if that's the case, maybe you're best off leaving alone or getting it upgraded by an offline service?

Think, or know, you are right. The nightmare of this particular phone goes on....
There used to be a SE Service Centre in Southampton who did my initial firmware upgrades but it is now no longer a SE agent. Not helpful really.
I am just about to receive TomTom Mobile 5 for this phone and hope that the firmware version won't cause any problems.
Any idea of where I can access a list of SE Service Centres?
Thanks

You got it all wrong.
SEUS by checking the IMEI recognises a P910i, so no problem there.
I suspect the previous owner flashed the firmware but didn't change the CDA, keeping the Orange one.

Thanks but what can I do about that, if anything?

Unless you get a tool that does that (those typical unlocking and firmware flashing ones), you can't do much.

So are you saying that SEUS is recognising the phone as an Orange branded one?
If that's the case, why wouldn't it permit an update to the *newer* Orange firmware that we know exists? Your response is illogical.
