> p900 apps gone!

My freind's was un-installing an app on his p900 and it appeared to have locked up so he removed the battery. When rebooted, all the apps are missing along with all icons for battery, clock, everything!
The only function the phone still has is the call list. With flip closed the app bubbles are there but only the middle one - call list - has an icon. He can make calls but nothing else.
Anyone have any ideas? Or will I have to try a master reset?
I just tried to install sman 1.4, everything went as normal, it asked me if i wanted to replace 1.3 etc, but no apps are available still.
