I have found it amusing going through so many threads about bugs and faults in newly purchased phones. What is it about these phones that have such a strong hold on people?
MS Duo gets corrupt. You buy a card reader as a workaround. Finally, an upgrade! But after that there's another set of bugs and problems to fix.
I read in a thread where one user asked rhetoretically whether firmware updates are not just trading one set of problems for another.
Personally, I always return a product that fails to live up to expectations. I wonder why so many people find it difficult to do that?
If a company releases a badly-finished product, and all buyers simply returned the products as soon as the issues are discovered, I can imagine that phone manufacturers would begin to sit up and stop using the paying public as guinea pigs for their experiments.
Or am I missing something?

Since upgrading the firmware on my phone I've had more problems that I bargained for. Will take it back to the SE Service Centre so the can reflash it back to RAE0033.

Well im waiting for Orange to get the w800i back in stock. As Orange phones are usually pretty well tested i think i'll leave the fw i get,as it is. At least until a newer fw is released and ppl start to report better news around here ;-) I'd get k750 but for the ms being smaller :-l Oh,and i guess sum ppl cant take their phones back cus upgrading, unlocking, converting k750's to w800's etc has voided their warrenty :-)

@AYA, i can see where you're coming from. ideally, everyone else would do as you do and we would get the result you said. however, if we returned a product, we'd need a replacement for it. problem is, every product has its own faults. so i guess we just have to live with the next best thing. at least till a perfect product is made, which we all know will take forever, if at all.

True. Especially in the sense that every product has its weaknesses (and strengths!). Bugs and faults are another matter entirely. Why should I pay for a product then go through cycles of experimentations to make it do what the manufacturer said it would do?
I do not tolerate it. I buy a phone and find a major flaw, I return it and pick another product. Every single time. I should not spend money to acquire frustrations and dissatisfaction, IMO.

If I buy something and it I experience faults and such, I'd contact support or go to the service centre and have it checked out. In this case, I usually fix and experiment things myself, just so if it happens in future (to anybody else as well), I can help them with that.
If its faulty on the first day though, I'd take it back. Then again, nothing like thats ever happened to me.

@AYA, i agree with you that we shouldn't have to pay for products with bugs and faults. in fact, as competition between companies manufacturing the same products intensify, we start to get products with half-baked firmware. i'm referring to mobile phones in particular, as i assume you ard also. in a ideal situation, there would not be any reason for firmware upgrades because phones should be released with the best firmware. indeed that's what you're trying to say right? i agree with your sentiments. =)

Unfortunatley in the UK if you upgrade on your contract then you are not allowed to return your phone for a refund, allegedly however this is not supposed to affect your statatoury rights as a consumer.
The phone retailers will only replace or send your phone away for repair.
You only get a 7 or 14 day cooling off period with a new contract or a new pay as you go.
In the UK to get these phones cheap people tend to upgrade on their contracts and are then left with phones with buggy, unacceptable firmware.
I for one find this policy unacceptable.

This is connected to a problem of mass production of a product.
Since SE trying to make many similar product to satisfy the market, an unexpected error or bug will always occur. SE of course will try hard to increase the quality of the process and try to decrease defected product.
Complaint wise, this forum is very active, one of the most active SE's forum you can find on the net. But it is not representing the whole SE's user. Some bugs and complaints that occur here doesnt always mean that all of SE product are buggy.
PS : Opinion wise, however, i believe that SE pay a good attention to the member of this forum, although represent only some part of the SE's user. This group consists of various type of user, from advanced user to newbie. That will provide enough sampling for SE survey's input.
Many improvements from t68 until know (such as better menus, more phonebook, customized sms tones, better camera, etc) were the most complained SE's features in here.
A slow process (it takes years for them to add numbers in phbook!), but it has gradually improved.
