> SmartMovie Equivalent for Mac OS X

Folks,
Tried Smartmovie for a whil eon my old pc, and was really pleased at being able to covert full length movies onto my P910i, drastically reducing teh size of the file, and being able to store it all on my MS Duo.
But, now I have a Mac, there is no SmartMovie for MAc - does anyone know of anything out there that does the same kind of thing?
Only ones I know of are SmartMovie and Mobile Movie Maker, but both are for Windows.

Hi!
I dont think there is a SmartMovie for Mac.
You could always use Quicktime to convert movies to MP4, and tweak the settings so that the qualities better.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Forget the P900 manager, it's not been updated for ages as far as I know. Also it just does MP4, smartmovie gives you better quality at the same filesize.
Get FFmpegX:
http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
And get my presets for it here:
http://www.321.dk/ffmpegx/smartmovie-presets.zip
Drop the file on FFmpegX and notice the framerate - select the preset with half that framerate (i.e. if the movies is 29.97fps, select a 15fps preset) that is closest to the movie aspect ratio: 4:3, 16:9 or 2.35:1
Works like a charm and I believe FFmpegX is just 15$ - and most of the functions are available even without registering (I suggest you register anyway if you like it - to support the development - I did!).
Cheers
Peter
P.S. I'm not affiliated with FFmpegX in anyway, just a happy Mac user

Peter,
I followed your instruction on another thread, and managed to get teh film to reduce down in size. I dropped the frame rate ( originally 25, down to 12.5 ) and the file size dropped to 77 mb ( from 225mb ), but I still want to get it down to smaller file size. After dropping the frame rate, it played back perfectly on my P910i - BUT teh sound was terrible, its on and off right teh way through teh file, so I still need to experiment with the audio when dropping the frame rate.
Managed to get a free copy of FFMpegX though, so it didn't cost anything.
I was copying the film Heat, and when I ripped it onto my hard disk, it ends up in about 7 parts. So to convert all parts would about 7 files of 77mb each.
Any advice would be great , but will look at your website, thanks

By the way, I emailed both the makers of SmartMovie and Mobile Movie Maker and asked if they had a Mac equivalent, and both of them said no.
I have the SmartMovie player installed on my phone , but looks like I will need to get used to encoding and compressing movies using FFMpegX ( free download ).
In some ways, I'm quite pleased at that, as it means I have to think, to play around with movies, experiment and use trial and error, so in the long run, it will enhance and increase my Mac knowledge, and movie compressing knowledge.
Must say though, many thanks to Peter for his advice and info.

Just an update to this thread.
I stumbled upon this app:
http://kaisakura.com/fortytwovx.php
It's the easiest way to make smartmovie compatible films on the Mac.
Just thought I'd let you all now
