I've used the P800 before upgrading to the P910 this year. Back then, I was always puzzled why the mp4s which I've created on the mac's Quicktime Pro can't be played on my then P800... I became optimistic when upgraded to the P910 but still met with failure...
Only recently did I find out why... the P900/910 has a very unconventional screen size: 320 x 208 pixels. Since Quicktime Pro exports mp4s based on fixed (non-custom) resolution, I had always thought that the 320x240 resolution would fit well. But as can be seen, the height is a little bigger than the P900/910's height of 208pixels. No wonder the movie can't play... its too big for my baby... of course you can export the movie one size down from Quicktime Pro; which is 176 x 144pixels which will play on the P900/910. But when you view it in full screen, it sucks with all the pixelation.
For me, smartmovie works well for now... but I have to work on a PC to get it to convert my VCDs. I dream of the day when I can get all my work done on the Mac...
Can't wait for the new P990 which has QVGA screen size (320 x 240pixels) to be here. I can then go all Mac...
Hope this clears a little about the several postings here asking why Quicktime Pro can't get movies to work on the P900/910...

Get FFmpegX for OS X - it will encode perfectly for smartmovie
Just use a framerate half of the original and use these sizes depending on the original aspect ratio.
4:3 -- 272x208
3:2 -- 320x208
1.66:1 -- 320x192
16:9 -- 320x176
1.85:1 -- 320x176
2.35:1 -- 320x128
I have created presets for 4:3, 16:9 and 2.35:1 in both 12.5 fps (for PAL movies), 12 fps (for "real" 24 fps movies) and 15 fps for NTSC movies.
It works great.
cheers

Oooh this sounds like I'm almost on the right track!
So, I have got FFmpegX for OS X, which I downloaded, and then tried to compress a movie file, but didn't experiment with the frame rate settings.
So, the result was a very large file, and when I copied this to my memory stick, it played v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y indeed.
Am I right in thinking then, if I change the frame rate, this should then play the movie better on my P901i and also reduce the size of the file?
cheers

Wow! That's really great. Thanks for the tip Pete... I have tried encoding using ffmpeg but faced the same problem with slow playoff. Will try adjusting the frame rate and see.
By gosh, if this works, good bye, good ridden to the world of PC... long live the Mac...

Hi, checked the website. I have a lot of suspicion regarding this software... Checked out Macupdate and read not-too-good reviews about the P900 Manager... Can't download the demo (14 evaluation) neither... fishy...
Anyone care to elaborate?

Hi Lesneo
I have created an archive of my presets for ffmpeg - these give great quality movies for Smartmovie, and pretty small movies as well.
There are presets for 12, 12.5 and 15 fps versions for 3 different aspect ratios.
When you drop a movie on ffmpegx - you can see the actual framerate in the info window - just select load from the menu and load the preset that's half the movies original framerate and where the aspect ratio comes closest (2.35:1 is the widest).
Download them here.
