Hi

I have a Googlemail (aka gmail?) account. I've managed to get it working on my p910 but only using Profimail. I have had to set the SMTP server as the one given by my phone provider (Orange). This all works well and I can send and receive mail.

When I send myself a mail from my phone to my work email address it shows up as coming from myname@googlemail.com. Which is good. But when i reply to it I get a message on my PC saying I do not have permission to send the mail. However, if I start a new mail to the same address it works fine.

Any ideas?

I should point out that I can reply to messages directly from googlemail.

So it must be something to do with using the orange smtp server but replying to a googlemail address?

that is right, Googlemail uses secured sending (I believe SSL) which your orange smtp settings probably don't use.

OK. So what difference would that have and why?

I don't know if this is related, but I'm on O2, and my POP accoutn is with ntlworld.

On teh settings for email account on my phone, the incoming server is set to pop ntlworld, but the outgoing server is smtp O2, not ntlworld.

Apparently, this is to do with sending mails when being on a different server when accessing emails - maybe you need to change some smtp settings?

Yeah it is related.

I think the last guy was right. I was using Orange's SMTP server for sending mail but that doesn't use SSL. Not sure why this matters when replying to a mail sent from the phone but it does. Maybe googlemail is expecting SSL cos it's a reply? But it doesn't want SSL in replies from googlemail. Who knows?!

I've now managed to set the phone up to use the googlemail SMTP and it all works fine now.
