For no discernable reason, this morning I tried to open my contacts and got this message "unexpected end of file". Tried re-boot but no joy, also tried "compress contacts" with S-man, it went through the motions ok but still gives the same error message.
Anyone got any ideas? I haven't heard of this one before.

I remember this sort of error from many years ago when I was playing with databases in MSDOS. Usually the last character in the file was a special code telling the program accessing the file that it had come to the end and not to try reading any more data. If the character was missing then you got that error. It could also mean a problem with an index for the database. As for a solution, you could try sync'ing with a PC program such as Outlook. Then writing the data back to the phone. Or you could try restoring a recent backup.

If you have several backups...

Try this *without touching* the phone:
1. Do a backup
2. After backup ends, the phone resets
3. In the flight mode screen query, access the file system using the windows explorer, and browse to the contacts database
4. Try to replace the contacts dabatase with one of the contacts. databases files in the backups on the PC

Note: The backup files can be opened with WinRar

I'm writing this from memory. Good luck

Thank's for the replys, tried the synch with outlook but this didn't help. I restored my most recent back up but got the same problem so I tried the previous one - problem gone!
Can't think of any reason for the problem, the only apps I have installed recently were a few trial versions of image viewers.
