I've been searching for a while for the answer, but I can't find it in any previous posts. I want to get a cable for my phone that will allow me to put ring tones, pictures, themes etc. on the phone as well as do software updates. I understand there are different cables, but do either of them do everything I want, or would I have to (*shudder*) buy two? Right now i'm looking at this site http://www.1800mobiles.com/ert68celac.html because I want to get the ratcheting clip at the bottom of the page, and it would be nice if I could get the cable at the same time.
There are two cables on that page, which one do I want, and does it come with software?
Also, are those prices decent (I live in the U.S, and I think close to their warehouse because their area code is one i know)?

aaand by any chance does anyone have any experience with that ratcheting clip?

thank you verrry much,
Mike

On the whole, you should be getting the USB cable rather than the serial one.

This is because the USB has faster transfer rate and it also on the other hand charges the phone while the serial can't.

I'm not sure those cables can do software (I take it you mean firmware) updates - check with the seller (also post on this board if you actually manage to access any firmware updates)! Both types of cable will allow you to send ringtones etc. to your phone.

USB cable will charge your phone while you're using it, but the Ericsson DRS-10 and DRS-11 (official) cables also have a socket on the connector to your phone that allows you to plug in your charger - so you can use the data cable and charge at the same time.

charging while transferring data isn't too important to me, and i don't really care about transfer speed because they're both fast anyway(i've worked with both usb and rs232 cables).

Is it possible to download the program needed to interface with the phone, or should I get the cable that comes with the software for it? As of now i'm getting the $32.50 cable from the site.

thanks!

The difference between the serial and usb cable aren't that big, except for the price. Who cares wether the phone gets charged a little while it's plugged in using the usb cable. And besides, the increased data transfer is not nessesary at all. The amounts of data being transfer are so small that it really makes no difference (to me anyway) wether the data transfer takes 10 or 5 seconds.

The only real difference I'm able to spot is that the USB cable costs about twice as much as the serial does.
